1. No one is trying to force her to violate her religious beliefs, even if she deeply believes granting a same sex marriage would violate her religious beliefs, she can always resign.
2. The judge isn't demanding she personally grant marriages, he said she could get out by instructing her staff to do it.
3. She divorced 3 times. If another judge had rejected her divorce on religious grounds, would she have found that fair? She has benefited from secularism 3 times, yet she refuses to grant that to other people.
4. She is instructing her ENTIRE office to not give same sex marriages. It isn't just about her, it is about her attempting to use her power to run a government institution according to her religious beliefs.

(111,383 posts)She certainly hasn't read the bits about divorce and adultery being committed on remarriage afterward.
She's a typical Cafeteria Christian whose only exercise of her religion seems to be to bully other people into following the parts she finds convenient.
And, as the OP pointed out, she's only issuing civil licenses, not performing the religious marriage part of it. Perhaps she needs to leave that sort of discretion up to her preacher.

(45,806 posts)I read a report somewhere (sorry I don't remember where) that when her FIL died, she was completely reborn into the church. Apparently that absolves her of her 4 mariages, out of wedlock sex, etc. I bet if yu asked her now, she would claim her membership in the Dem. Party went the way of her prior bad behavior.

(11,804 posts)Seems open and shut to me. Set aside the issue of whether she should do her job or not (she clearly should and she should be removed from office if she refuses to do so) - if a Judge orders you to do something you have to do it. Allowing someone to refuse to obey a judge would be a terrible precedent, no matter what the justification.

(33,688 posts)You do NOT, under any circumstances, look at an order from a federal judge and tell the judge, in effect, to stick his order where the monkey put the nuts. And that is what she did. Have fun in the Big House, Kimmy.

A rabbi did a little research--into the Statement of Faith from the Apostolic Christian Church--
and it instructs its members to obey government.
Huh. Pretty obvious something else is going on here than just her pretense of "following God".
