Kentucky Clerk Fighting Gay Marriage Has Wed Four Times

Kentucky Clerk Fighting Gay Marriage Has Wed Four Times
A fellow gay marriage-resisting county clerk says 'that's forgivable.'
By Steven Nelson Sept. 1, 2015 | 4:37 p.m. EDT

The Kentucky county clerk facing potentially stiff penalties for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses has been married four times, raising questions of hypocrisy and selective application of the Bible to her life.

The marriages are documented in court records obtained by U.S. News, which show that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis divorced three times, first in 1994, then 2006 and again in 2008.

She gave birth to twins five months after divorcing her first husband. They were fathered by her third husband but adopted by her second. Davis worked at the clerk's office at the time of each divorce and has since remarried.

Davis has described her desire to strictly adhere to the Bible in stark terms and thus far has shown no sign of bending to court orders on same-sex marriage. She said Tuesday she fears going to hell for violating "a central teaching" of the Bible if she complies with the orders.

it would seem her supervisor would be held in contempt for keeping her in the job - or was she elected?

She got pregnant by husband #3 while married to husband #1 and husband #2 adopted the twins? Exactly what biblical high ground is she standing on? This is hilarious.

but she CAN be thrown in jail for contempt. Then she's a felon, can't vote, can't own a gun.

Should be interesting to see how many of her employees are willing to go along with it.

Popcorn anyone?

Nice "work" if you can get it I guess.

Plus you can break every rule in the Bible personally, then condemn other people who are way better than you and feel all holy about it. SMH

What a joke that clerk is! I wonder how many of those supporting her position know those facts about her life? Or maybe they just don't care!

behavior (in this case goes against God's law) that you yourself are guilty of doing? Last I heard, it's against God's laws to divorce, have sex outside of wedlock, and then marry again after divorcing. Shouldn't she be afraid of people ridiculing HER?

she's done it four times.

I was reminded of a girl I went to high school with who was married six times.

We asked her why she kept doing it. She said, "Well, I guess long as God makes the sons of bitches I'll keep marryin' em."
