I had a complete hysterectomy because of an exam there. I had huge cysts that were pre cancerous. I am sure they have saved more womens lives than can be counted. I wish the GOP would just stfu and quit trying to find out what every woman is doing with their bodies and their health care needs. It's none of their damn business what any woman decides is best for themself. What the hell is their obcession with sex and who has it and what they do as far as reproductive rights go?

(22,414 posts)the only clinic that tested for HIV without charge was Planned Parenthood.
State stopped funding them, so they closed.
Result is now a full blown public health emergency:

(2,585 posts)They want to control our lives and our bodies. The issue has never been about the (so-called) right to life versus the right to choose. The real issue is about the right to coerce, to force their religious beliefs on the bodies of women. It is always the same with patriarchy: power over.
From what I am currently observing, the rights of women are going to be even more under attack than in the past. The GOP will probably use us as their punching bag in an effort to fire up their base for the campaigns in 2016. I think they see that they can't win on either gay marriage or racism (though not from lack of trying so ramping up the hate on women is mostly what they are left with.

By last week, states had already introduced more than 100 bills intended to regulate access to abortion, according to researchers at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Lawmakers are working to restrict the procedure in more than half the states in the country:
abortion bills introduced
According to the Sunlight Foundation, which tracks legislative activity, states continue to introduce multiple restrictions related to abortion each day. Proposed legislation on the state level includes bills that would require women to watch anti-choice videos before they may proceed with an abortion, bills that would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, bills that would restrict clinics ability to prescribe the abortion pill, and bills that would completely outlaw the most common surgical abortion procedure.
Many of those measures are based on model legislation written by anti-choice groups that specialize in pioneering new bills like Americans United for Life, the National Right to Life Committee, and the Susan B. Anthony List. Having hundreds of pre-written bills on hand allows conservative lawmakers to submit a rash of legislation at the beginning of the session and see what manages to advance.
The states filing new abortion restrictions already heavily regulate the procedure. Missouri, for instance, is considering at least 10 different anti-abortion bills even though the state has just one clinic left that offers abortion services.
And that article is outdated by several months, it's even worse.

(16,334 posts)Planned Parenthood is so much more than birth control or abortion advice but that's all many people believe it to be. I wish there was more marketing about what they actually do. They provide high quality, low cost care and education for many women. It's vital.
