Early one morning in 1982, 12-year-old paperboy Johnny Gosch vanished. He was seen talking to a man in a car. The car was heard speeding away. And he was gone.

In the 30-plus years since his disappearance in West Des Moines, Johnny’s mother, Noreen Gosch, has tirelessly pursued her son’s long-cold case while also advocating for stronger laws regarding missing persons. She still believes Johnny is alive, and she thinks she knows what happened to him. His kidnapping, she and others say, has ties to an Omaha child prostitution ring.

When filmmakers David Beilinson, Suki Hawley and Michael Galinsky heard about the case more than a decade ago, they knew they needed to tell the story. Although Johnny’s case captured national attention in the early ’80s — he was one of the first missing children pictured on a milk carton — it’s not a story that many know about outside this region.

“Who Took Johnny” — the culmination of 10 years’ worth of filming and culling through tens of thousands of documents and photos — focuses on Noreen Gosch.

There was another paperboy missing around that time - first or last name Martin?

And I recall a freezing cold walk to and from Mutual of Omaha building in the dark of winter for a temp job before John Joubert was identified as the murderer of 2 young boys at the time. My son was young at the time and it was a very frightening time. The boys died horrible deaths I recall.
