Well, Guns do kill people after all

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by DonViejo (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Surprise, surprise. That old saw, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people" glibly given when gun violence is brought up may have a grain of truth in it, but having a gun around sure helps in that process .

Chart (map and other data on what the average gun owner in America is like on site) shows that for every 100k population in every state the ratio of deaths by guns. Delaware being the lowest, Alaska the highest.

Get in your car in Chicago, go to almost any place outside of it and buy yourself whatever gun you want . Poor choice of a rebuttal.

As is the case every 4th of July weekend, the stupidity will get cranked to 11 as local jagoffs with coping and anger management issues lose their shit and end up beating, robbing, ventilating and killing others with reckless abandon.

I look at it this way. There are a lot of pissed-off people in this country, what with one thing and another. When one is seriously pissed-off, having a firearm handy can be a great way to -- excuse the expression -- blow off steam. I can't help feeling that it would be more useful to address the underlying rage, but obviously that is much more complicated than just banning the things.

then we obviously need better statistics. If only there was some agency that could study this phenomenon, possibly attached to the government, like this one maybe?

which sort of begs the question of how the thing that motivates gun control calls the most...mass-shootings...actually correlates to commoness of gun ownership.
