Saline County teen finds 4-inch centipede in ear

A Saline County teenager woke up Tuesday morning with excruciating pain in one of his ears. Grant Botti, 14, says he felt something strange in his ear and decided to grab hold of it. What he pulled out, would shock everyone. It was a 4-inch long centipede.

Grant's mom, Angela Botti, put the still-alive centipede in a plastic bag and took Grant to the emergency room because he was still in pain.

A doctor at Saline Memorial examined Grant's ear, finding some small abrasions in his ear drum. He was treated and released.

Grant's mom says they don't know where the centipede came from, but that Grant had been outdoors swimming recently.

The Dr removed it thankfully, but it was dead by that point.

In Hawai'i, people shake out their shoes before putting them on, in case a centipede has crawled inside. But Arkansas?

B) I was way up in the Ozarks, in Carroll County (Berryville, later Eureka Springs).

I thought you had actually lived there.

At any rate, centipedes occur even in the Ozarks. I ran across a couple while hiking on a Beaver Lake nature trail. And, according to my link, "Within Arkansas, we have reliable reports of this species from Benton, Carroll, Washington, Crawford, Sebastian, Perry, Pulaski, Garland, Hot Spring, Pike, and Howard Counties"

I once found a centipede in my drawer--huge, maybe ten inches.
Hawai'i has some big bugs--and roaches! Oh yeah, and rats.

It was at least six inches long. I would rather sleep with scorpions than be anywhere near those things.

When I was 4, I had an ear ache... it turned out to be a tick and it had laid eggs on my ear drum. My mom said she almost passed out when the doctor told her why I was crying so much. Living in the foothills of southern Oregon... ticks happen.

Luckily, I'm in the Midwest now, so I'm more worried about tornadoes, west nile virus, and rabies-- great distraction. lmao

Party on!

centipedes.

Millipedes are friendly little slow-moving critters. I put them outside.

I pound centipedes with a hammer until there is nothing left.
