Yes. John Newton, who wrote Amazing Grace, was a slave trader. But Amazing Grace is about his awakening - finding God, leaving behind the slave trade and becoming an abolitionist. He was lost, but now he's found - was blind, but now he can see.
What a wretched, wretched woman.
The Confederate Flag wasn't a flag of the South's awakening against slavery - it was the flag of a nation that fought to preserve slavery.
What a stunningly stupid comment - even for Ann Coulter.

John Newton was a slaver but, after converting to Christianity, he became an abolitionist. #historymatters

She is well defended against reality, and nasty, besides.

(25,495 posts)her act is so old. There was a point when she was yammering nonstop nonsense where I drifted into a trance and I thought everybody on the panel did too for a moment, a place where you feel powerless to stop something and begin to think about your next meal or what's on TV later.

(25,495 posts)Didn't Sarah Palin use "Green Eggs & Ham" to mock the ACA without realizing that if the ACA were green eggs & ham, in the end the character likes it after he's tried it? But I guess it doesn't matter because Sarah and Ann's audience doesn't know anything either. No thank you, Ann-I-Am.

(54,370 posts)One day, she was being driven from Connecticut into New York City, and due to road construction, there was a detour through a rural area. Coulter told her driver to step on it so as not to be late for her Fox Noise taping. He did, but as he was taking a sharp curve, there was an aging cow in the middle of the road, and he hit it full on. The limousine suffered a few dents, but the cow didn't survive the collision.
Coulter was furious, but the damage was done, so she ordered her driver to go the nearby farm house, tell them who he was and what had happened, and pay them whatever damages they deemed fair so they could be on their way again. The guy pulled the limo to the side of the road and walked on over to the house. He knocked on the door and was let in.
Ten minutes went by. Coulter sighed.
Half an hour went by. Coulter was getting impatient.
An hour went by. Coulter was getting angry.
Two hours went by. Coulter was steaming with rage.
Finally, at the end of two hours, the driver stumbled out of the house, his normally impeccable uniform and hair in disarray. Furious, she demanded that he explain what had gone on inside the house. He said he told them just what she had told him to say, and they sat him down, gave him a gourmet meal with vintage wine and champagne. Afterward, the eldest daughter, who was about 30, took him upstairs to bed for a wild romp.
Coulter couldn't believe her ears, although the man's appearance was in line with what he had said. She asked exactly what he had told them. He said, "I told them exactly what you ordered me to tell them. I said I was Ann Coulter's chauffeur, and that I had just killed the old cow."
