(41,692 posts)Why do you feel the need to defend your guns on a day when a massacre like this happens?
I don't get it? I really don't?

(19,497 posts)The KKK used to make a regular practice of killing people of color. The police were useless because most times the police were wearing the hoods and robes. So the would be victims armed themselves and defended their families.
Its those families whose guns I'm defending. Seeing as the killer is still at large and police efficacy is debatable people should be allowed to defend themselves.

(18,101 posts)Both sides need to give it a rest. Trying to have a productive gun discussion on DU never works. Doing it now is just stupid.

So when, exactly, is the right time to talk about sane gun control.
Oh, right, never for you.

(22,165 posts)Horrible tragedies have spurred extraordinary reforms.
The folk that are sick are the ones that sit back and say ; Oh this is bad but, but .... don't exploit the tragedy and use it as a call to action to prevent this from happening again.
I wonder if the same folk would have called the quest for reform following the Triangle Shirt Factory fire, exploiting the tragedy (there were plenty of factory owners that did just that).
The Dhaka factory collapse spurred the same kind of exploitation of a tragedy (reforms calling for safe working conditions for workers, many factory owners continue to fight this).

Step 2: Complain that anyone who calls you on your flamebait is horrible and heartless.
Step 3: Enjoy an entire day of self validation as the thread blows up.

There's no pretend about it and no fear about telling the truth.

(356 posts)my whole family were hunters just as most of the farmers and neighbors did when I was growing up. My gather taught us to respect our weapons, make a clean and accurate shot. Those are just a couple of the many rules my father instilled in us. We hunted to eat, never hunted for bragging rights. Each of us field dressed the kill ourselves.
I haven't hunted for years choosing to shoot game with a camera rather than to kill. I no longer need to kill to place the food on my plate.
In my adult years I still own weapons. A rifle and a few handguns. My handguns are solely for protection, if the need arises. I have a Concealed Carry Permit and just about always have one of my weapons on me at all times. I will not hesitate to use it to protect myself or loved ones.
So if you feel the need to call me a 'gun lover' so be it but I prefer to call myself gun advocate for the simple reason that I value my rights and safety.
There are good and bad in all walks of life. How many criminals actually follow the laws when it comes to gun ownership? Law abiding citizens don't acquire nor do they use their weapons for criminal intent.
