Hillary Clinton says she had a "restful" time following her tenure as Secretary of State, but that doesn't mean she didn't make a lot of money.
During that time, she made nearly $12 million by charging fees that topped $335,000 for dozens of speeches.
Clinton's speaking fees shed light on the industries willing to shill out big bucks for a few minutes with the former Secretary of State.
As the Washington Post notes, a significant chunk of the money that Clinton made from speeches came from tech companies. eBay shilled out $315,000 for a speech that last 20 minutes, while Cisco paid $325,000 for Clinton to sit onstage with the company's CEO. Salesforce.com brought Clinton back for multiple events.
And for discount spenders, Clinton offered a reduced price for remote addresses via satellite video. The former Secretary of State charged some of her lowest speaking fees to the California Medical Association and Novo Nordisk for video speeches.

A picture that formed the headline for a story from a pro-Clinton site followed immediately by a "table" that was totally hatcheted. No attribution for either.
Pure flame bait.

(38,437 posts)Shit, it's not like we hadn't seen that friggin' table before. Like a thousand times.
This was nothing but horseshit. Are you defending it? Smells like it.
DesMoinesDem
(1,569 posts)It's a table of numbers. I thought the headline fit the table perfectly. You seem to be pissed that you are seeing this table again because you want it hidden. You don't want the truth to be seen.
Buzz Clik
(38,437 posts)The "headline" came from one source plumping Clinton's record on income equality.
The table came from another source outlining Clinton's massive earnings from big companies/whatever for lectures.
It was INTENTIONALLY misleading.
I'm done with this thread. Have the last word.
DesMoinesDem
(1,569 posts)You think it's misleading because you associate the headline with the other propaganda article. That's your problem. The headline works with the table. Hillary is a lifetime champion of income opportunity, and the table proves it.

And the Mr/Ms "Dem" decided to follow that with money Hillary earned for speeches at various locations.

(68,644 posts)Next thing you know, Clinton doesn't know where she stands.
But it gets worse:
Facilitating arms sales, including biological and chemical agents, to unfriendly nations and then taking money from them:
That year, the Algerian government donated $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation and its lobbyists met with the State Department officials who oversee enforcement of human rights policies. Clintons State Department the next year approved a one-year 70 percent increase in military export authorizations to the country. The increase included authorizations of almost 50,000 items classified as toxicological agents, including chemical agents, biological agents and associated equipment after the State Department did not authorize the export of any of such items to Algeria in the prior year.

Under Hillary Clinton, the State Department approved $165 billion worth of commercial arms sales to 20 nations whose governments had given millions to the Clinton Foundation.
And then a LOT of those arms manufacture's dollars went back to the Clintons in the form of high priced speaking fees.

(68,644 posts)IMO, these speaking engagements have the appearance of a way to launder money, right in plain sight!
Clinton has spoken in general terms on trade, saying in New Hampshire last month that any trade deal "has to produce jobs and raise wages and increase prosperity and protect our security." But the issue pits liberal Democrats against the White House and Republicans, and there's a chorus of Democrats are calling for Clinton to weigh in.
In the weeks since she launched her presidential bid, Clinton has been dogged by questions about whether special interests sought to buy influence while she was secretary of state through donations to the Clinton Foundation and through Bill Clinton's paid speeches. For the first time, Hillary Clinton's financial disclosures provide a picture of the speaking engagements for which she was paid since leaving the State Department and at a time when she was actively considering whether to run for president.
According to the disclosures released by the campaign on Friday evening, the former secretary of state earned at least $2.7 million from speeches at companies backing the trade promotion authority (TPA) that President Obama has been seeking in order to "fast track" approval of trade deals. While that's a fraction of the $25 million Bill and Hillary Clinton earned from paid speeches from January 2014 to present, they nonetheless open the presidential candidate to criticism.

(13,877 posts)nerve earlier to suggest that Bernie couldn't manage his money which is why he didn't have much. I'd like to see the list of his paid speaking engagements? Probably "crickets".
Now that's a visual that would pretty much sum it up. Who is for the People, and who is for themselves first. Talk about Trickle-down. This appears to be flood stage up.

(27,787 posts)I'm guessing not ... but WOW does this read like a Karl Rove ad.
Karl likes to take what the GOP does, and project it against his opponent.
If you can't provide similar data for the GOP Candidates ... no one on DU should take you seriously.
DesMoinesDem
(1,569 posts)That's how low the Hillary defenders have sunk? Sad. I don't know who the top 5 Republican candidates are right now, but looking at the list of all of them I can guarantee none of them are making $315,000 for a 20 minute speech like Hillary was paid for speaking to ebay executives. Fiorina is probably the most wealthy thanks to hp, though she is probably worth less than the Clintons. Huckabee probably made millions from his show. Jeb apparently is only worth a few million. That's about as far as I'll go for your demands trying to distract from Hillary's income. If you care about the Republicans you can look it up. I'm not interested in them. I am interested in Hillary Clinton because she is running for the Democratic nomination. If all you do is defend Hillary Clinton and attack anyone that posts accurate information about her no one on DU should take you seriously. I know I don't.
Fumesucker
(45,851 posts)If there were serious arguments here that we should vote Republican then yes I see where the data on Republicans would be useful but that is not the case.
DU already agrees that Republicans are worse, that is not even an issue.
