Yes. There is no longer a legal argument to be made for it. | |

(57,936 posts)is of course cause for a lot of paranoid thoughts on very bad days. Like when I open my Yahoo account and instead of showing the temperature in Los Angeles where I live, it shows it in I think Herndon, VA. (VA I think). Also, I recently signed up for Facebook and received notices that my account had been accessed from Herndon, VA.
Just now, I checked Yahoo and I got the Los Angeles temperature.
My paranoid thoughts may be silly. I'm not seriously worried because the worst I do in my life is express my harmless opinions on DU and coo over my grandchildren and those of others in my family. But, hey, it's a crazy world, and I am a nonconformist, so who knows?
But the change in the Yahoo temperature report may indicate that the surveillance is on hiatus.
Or it may indicate that I and probably many like me are overly paranoid. Who knows? Anyway, I try to behave myself and not say anything too offensive. And I suppose that is the purpose of the surveillance. To make us behave ourselves and to chill any naughty speech we might indulge in (as if I would).

(9,688 posts)It's about how that reality, and it is a reality, is regulated.
How that regulation is enforced.

(57,936 posts)and now, tonight, has switched back to Los Angeles where I live. It may be a pure coincidence. But I think it is very funny. I'm about the most nonviolent, harmless person you could ever know. At just over 5 feet (used to be 5 feet 2 inches), female and over 70, I really don't pose much of a credible threat in any respect. I can't believe I am on some list, but what is the explanation for the Herndon, Va confusion on my Yahoo and Facebook accounts. Do I have a secret admirer at the age of 72? If so, that is material for a major work of romantic fiction. It's got to be a joke.
And maybe it is just an internet mistake.
I am not making this up. Thanks.

(22,165 posts)The executive order, signed by President Reagan in 1981 and modified many times since, is the authority relied upon by the intelligence agencies, including the NSA, to conduct surveillance of foreigners outside of the United States. According to recent reports, however, the government relies upon the executive order to sweep up the international communications of countless Americans. For example, it collect billions of records every day containing the location information of mobile phones, including Americans' phones; to harvest the address books of email users; and to sweep up the information of users of Google and Yahoo as it travels between those companies' data centers abroad.
