Iceland abolishes law which orders Basques to be killed on sight
Iceland has repealed a 400-year-old law which said Spaniards from the Basque Country should be killed as soon as they set foot in the Westfjords region

Icelandic authorities in the Westfjords region have repealed a law which orders the murder of any visitor from the Basque region.
The law, which applies only in Westfjords – a northern peninsula jutting out into the sea, and the most remote part of Iceland – dates back to 1615.

I expect Iceland to be run over by Basque shepherds any day now... Oh, my!!

Sadly most of the rest of the world refused to hold the bankers accountable and even recently the DOJ let them buy their way out of going to jail with a measly fine that was a drop in the bucket to how much money they made with their illegal actions.

that the Green/Left coalition government that did it just had its asses handed to it in elections. And that Iceland's home repossession rate is higher than the US's.

It's a massively more complicated situation than a simple meme makes it appear. Another good starting point is NPR's "Planet Money" report on it:

gives a good overview. I quick read would show that the solutions found would be difficult (or impossible) to replicate here, though perhaps if the motives were followed we might have been able to do better. I think our politics have been a bit on the poisonous side, and what we got was what we voted for more or less (looking at congress especially).

Iceland's Finance Minister asks business to help raise wages.
Sound familiar?

http://icelandreview.com/news/2015/05/11/finance-minister-employers-must-do-part-increase-wages

IMO, it looks like they've got the same Left vs right dynamic going on there as we do here.

Those folks in the street are probably Iceland's equivalent to T-baggers.

If Bernie Sanders ever got elected and we raised taxes on the rich, you'd see the same
demonstrations in the streets organized here, and pushed by FoxNooz.
