Are America’s Small Businesses Finally Realizing That They’re Being Screwed by Big Business?

The Revolt of Small Business Republicans
MONDAY, MAY 18, 2015

Can it be that America’s small businesses are finally waking up to the fact they’re being screwed by big businesses?

For years, small-business groups such as the National Federation of Independent Businesses have lined up behind big businesses lobbies.

They’ve contributed to the same Republican candidates and committees favored by big business.

And they’ve eagerly connected the Republican Party in Washington to its local business base. Retailers, building contractors, franchisees, wholesalers, and restaurant owners are the bedrock of local Republican politics. .................(more)

for fire and health. Now, I'm the sort that WANTS fire and health regulations in place.

But one year they tell you to do X, and you do it at great expense, and then 5 years later they tell you to do Y at great expense. And occasionally they'll come back and tell you Y wasn't necessary after all...

Large corporate owned business can comply easily with ever changing regulations. For a small business it is beyond burdensome.

And this is why many small business owners are Republican. Because of ever changing government regulations and taxation rules.

There should be a two-tiered system when it comes to passing fire and health inspections. One for businesses who employ or service over a certain amount or under a certain amount.

They (used to) maintain the infrastructure that small business relies on. They (used to) push for universal health care, which levels the playing field with the big businesses whose size permits them to negotiate special deals with insurance companies--not to mention having a healthier work force. They (used to) support higher wages, which means more affluent customers. They (used to) work for stronger public schools & universities, keeping costs down for students in the latter. They (used to)…

has started several businesses, all--it seemed to me--good ideas with a good chance of success, all crushed by larger, established competitors. He blames the government. He is a certified (certifiable?) Tea Partier, thinks all government regulation needs to go away and that then he will succeed...I've pointed out several times that then the corporations will be all that are left standing, and asked if he thinks that will be better for him, but he won't engage on that question.

It would be nice if he, and others like him, woke the f@ck up.
