(12,081 posts)to all K-12 and university education, support teacher unions, and decrease H1B visas so those who are in your pet STEM programs can get jobs. If you are not willing to do those things, then I cannot believe a single thing you say on education Mr. President.

But somewhere along the line, realpolitik kicks in, and that's when you have to play the game.
It's a shame that the glass is always half empty.

(12,081 posts)Obama's Race to the Top and Bill Gate's Common Core my autistic son was forced to take 6th grade math when he had a 3rd/4th grade comprehension of it. When he didn't learn the 6th grade math he was simply passed on to 7th grade where they forced him to take 7th grade math. When he didn't learn that they simply passed him on to 8th grade. In 9th grade we moved to another school district where they evaluated where he was on comprehension. He didn't even know how to multiply or divide. They had to go back and teach him to multiply and divide so that now in 10th grade he can learn and actually understand algebra. He came home crying nearly everyday in 6th grade asking if he could skip school the next day. I would have to tell him no that he had to go to school and do his best regardless of the fact that they obviously didn't know how to educate him. So don't even talk to me about magic wands and emperors!

(16,104 posts)You really think Obama is responsible for this?
Where I live, school principals, parents and local school boards and State education boards are responsible for all this.
My children weren't passed, they were required to pass the grade-appropriate tests, or go to summer school, repeat the scholastic year, be held back. That was under Bush, and under "No Child Left Behind."
I ain't buying what you is selling.

(12,081 posts)thinks about me or my son? NO. I care about my son, and that is why I do not support Obama's Race to the Top or Gate's Common Core. You can think whatever you want.

(16,104 posts)I didn't like our local school and what they did, I home-schooled my children after they got to high-school. I don't take BS very well.
I think this is about bashing Obama, and nothing about you and your son.
But never mind me, I'm just someone on the internet. Just like you.

(12,081 posts)My son's school district will be participating in a one day strike this Friday to send a message to Olympia to fund K-12 education as our state constitution demands they do. Our state legislators, both Republican and Democrat, have been under funding schools for years now and is under contempt of court because they continue to under fund it. Also, every school in WA is considered a failing school because our state legislators refused to tie teacher evaluations to state standardized testing. Now our schools are in danger of losing even more money because we refuse to punish our teachers if our children don't get high enough standardized test scores. I will always fight for my children's education even if that means criticizing Democrats in order to do it. You are free to think whatever you want of me. It really doesn't matter. I will continue to fight for my children's education regardless of what anybody thinks.
