Let's get a camera inside one of these vans so we can see the conditions that Freddie Gray was having to deal with while he was inside. Let's see the other side of the inside of the van and the partition in between that didn't allow the second prisoner to see Freddie but to hear him.
I think that would be helpful for all to see in order to get a better perspective of the situation.
I'm surprised no news outlet has gotten permission from the police to do that yet.

(25,253 posts)they have others just like it in their fleet. Just let us see one that is the same as the one Freddie was in.

Many questions remain over Grays death, with some speculating he was subjected to a so-called rough ride, where a prisoner is not placed in a seatbelt and is then thrown violently around a vehicle being driven erratically.
Police have conceded that Gray was not put in a seatbelt at the time he was placed in the vehicle, in violation of standard procedure.

I don't know how they're going to manage not to charge the cops in this case with anything from reckless endangerment to manslaughter.

??? Is that the back door, or the back as in back from the entrance door? Big difference.

(16,191 posts)you can see what appear to be several large bolt heads sticking out around the window at the far end of the prisoner box. It could be that they're referring to those, or there may be slight differences between the van in this video and the van he was actually injured in.

(16,191 posts)One of his cousins had one of those old Chevy 70's era full size conversion vans with the carpeting, tables, and stuff. It was a rolling party van, and even had a cheesy mural of a black hole and a giant spaceship painted on the side (from the movie The Black Hole). One night after smoking a bit too much pot, they started goofing off on a country road, standing up in the van (as much as you could in one of those anyway) while the driver swerved around. It was one of those typical stupid teenager games that dumb teenagers play every day. Kids in the back try to stand, while driver tries to make them fall down.
At some point, his cousin sped the van up and slammed on the brakes, thinking it would make him fall onto the floor. If he'd taken a physics class, he would have understood that the result was going to be his cousins unrestrained body traveling at 30-40MPH inside of a stopped van until it hit something solid.
He impacted the dashboard head first at high speed. Three days later he died. He was just a 16 year old kid playing a stupid game.
Conceivably, the same thing could have happened to Gray. If he was unrestrained at the back of the police van, and the van made a sudden stop, the result would have his body becoming a high speed projectile inside of that steel box. If he impacted one of those bolts at speed, the result would have been consistent with the injuries seen on his body.

(25,253 posts)I thought I read something this morning that said that a order just came down to equip the Baltimore vans with seat belts shortly before Freddie was taken into custody. I'm wondering if they got around to putting seat belts in all the vans by then.
