brutality and the deflection is those who are whining about whether or not the President and the Mayor called those who looted, burned and destroyed stores and cars are thugs or not. Well, hell, they are thugs. It would be insane to believe that it was just youthful indiscretion when you had adults in the midst stealing everything they could get their hands on. Now you have sororities and fraternities busing people miles away just to get medication. Policing is the focus and changing policing so that bad cops cannot operate under the coverage of the kinds of things that have swept the country. Burning and looting is not going to change the dynamic. They now know what will happen: The people will march and protest; they will burn some stores in their neighborhood; they will burn police cars; they will continue about two weeks and then they will calm down and things are the same. It is time to use the ballot box and the mind to change things. Politicians who have never shown their faces before will come out and promise wonderful things that will never happen. Instant money will appear and then be withdrawn in the next year and life will go on. Think! Think! Think! Infiltrate the political positions and put people in who have the ability to do what they say on the stump. FLAME AWAY! JUST COLLECTING MY THOUGHTS.

(34,648 posts)So, they should vote out the Dems and put in republicans? Seems like the mass incarcerations started under O'malley.
They don't live nice lives like you. They live in multi generational poverty, just like we did in Watts, Compton, ES Long Beach, etc.
this is a result of disinvestment in the black community, red lining, the drug war, welfare reform, police abuse, stigmatization, poverty, terrible schools, lead in paint causing educational and behaviorial problems, hoplessness, and a lack of national concern for the welfare of blacks, and racism racism racism.
It's easy to judge and say what you would or wouldn't do, but it ain't yo back against the wall.
Funny how people who have not lived that life are just bursting to the brim and rushing to put more labels like 'thug' on these poor beat down children. I notice that white folks are the most concerned with maintining their ability and fighting for the right to call black children thugs like their souls depend on still being able to attach nasty ass labels to OUR children.
Thug is the new nigge@, If you want to call them thugs, may as well go for it and call them nigge@$. And I'll be right here telling you exactly what thug means until you drop that shit out of your vocabulary talking about children that ain't your and that you have nothing to do with, that you have never helped. Sit like miss muffet on your tuffet and trash talk our children. I'll be the spider. Call your own fucking kids names. Ours have enough to deal with in this land of White Supremacy.

(34,648 posts)Don't be stupid. Freddie Gray and his family won a lawsuit about lead paint poisoning, it caused him severe problems to the point where he was functionally illiterate. It is a problem in Baltimore. They have 8 times the national average for lead paint poisoning
My arguments are sound. You should research before you write such a snarky message. You are wrong. I'll be waiting for your apology after you check the stats and search freddie gray, lead poison lawsuit. Thanks!

(11,001 posts)you cannot cover those who did what these did with ideologies and philosophical bullshit. Respect my space and I will respect yours, but you cannot dictate what I and many others think. Peace.

(11,001 posts)whatever you choose will find us facing the same old same old day after day. Peace. Racism is alive and well. Internally, you cannot change a person's heart without a bunch of apologies threats. But what you can do is change the system by mass voting of the right people who see a FUTURE for all children. Then there will be no need to have rhetorical arguments about whether thug is or is not a good term. Peace.

(34,648 posts)State sanctioned criminals allowed to use violence on innocent civilians without repercussions. Wall street. Wealthy men who start wars for profit. Imo, only the powerful are thugs. The might thugs. Poor folks ain't thugs. They poor.

(50,285 posts)aren't you doing exactly what you are accusing them of doing? And I'm curious. What one word would you use to describe a person who breaks into a pharmacy, loots the shelves and then sets it on fire? Is felon racist? Is vandal racist? Let me guess . . . misunderstood person?
