Let the Primary Campaigns Begin!

We still don't have a complete list of Democratic primary candidates, but it looks like Clinton, Sanders and O'Malley will be in the mix. As I've said many times on DU, I will vote for Senator Sanders if his name is on my primary ballot in Minnesota, and will caucus for him in my precinct caucus and district conventions. I'd like to see him as President. I'm not sure that he has much of a chance to win in the later Minnesota primary election, though, and am pretty certain that my state's delegation will be pledged to Hillary Clinton at the national convention.

It's a primary election. Who becomes the candidate for the November, 2016 general election is what we'll be deciding. After the convention, I pledge my support and vote to whoever becomes the official candidate. I will work hard for anyone who gets the nomination. That's my pledge, as it has been in every election since 1968, which was my first presidential election.

I'm all for a lively, active primary campaign. Such primaries are valuable for the Democratic Party. We need primaries to air all of the issues. The nominee, however, is decided as a result of how people vote. As a Democrat, I support the official nominee of the party. Always. I'm a Democrat.

Let's not destroy the Democratic Party over these primaries. Instead, let's let them do the job they're designed to do: to select a candidate who can win the general election with all of our help.

It's Primary Season! Let's do this together, whatever the result!
