Falls under "combating inequalities in our criminal justice system," but it's not specifically mentioned about non-violent offenders. That surprises me. She'll have to specifically mention it if she gets the nod for 2016.

BTW, this appears to be a nice marijuana endorsement, albeit indirectly.

1st mandatory minimum drug law in 4 decades, with the DOJ changed the guidance for using mandatory minimums when the offense is non-violent. Basically he couldn't get the law repealed, but the DOJ can issue guidance to the prosecutors as to when they should seek certain penalties.

He also made sure the ACA covered rehab.

Like she just decided to take this position today.

Imagine what we would feel and what we would do if white drivers were three times as likely to be searched by police during a traffic stop as black drivers, instead of the other way around,” she said, “if white offenders received prison sentences 10 percent longer than black offenders for the same crimes, if a third of all white men—just look at this room and take one third—went to prison during their lifetime. Imagine that. That is the reality in the lives of so many of our fellow Americans and so many of the communities in which they live.

I'd like to see a lot of movement on this at State and Federal levels!

As for the Hillary team, to the extent they can draft specific proposals on how her Administration envisions working with these officials, then I think that's really great.

Regardless of who gets the democratic party nomination, I think all relevant Federal and State officials should be taking concrete steps toward this major prison reform.
