No matter how bad the police are doing their job, when the community rises up into violence and destruction...they are playing into the script that the utlra conservatives want to see.....fanning the flames of racial unrest and de-legitimatizing the unjust treatment of Law Enforcement.....foxnews will have a field day and once the National Guard goes active, real pay back could be coming....
Hoping for calmer heads to prevail

The media (and other observers) are the ones to be held accountable for their 'script.'

(25,183 posts)You scare the mushy middle enough, and they'll vote for a Richard Nixon, even with a George Wallace siphoning off the worst of the racists. Before "Law and Order" was the title of a series of TV shows, it was on of Tricky Dick's campaign slogans. He knew how to dog whistle. I'll bet Ted Cruz does, too.

(1,249 posts)Progress has always been nudged along by the fear of violent uprising. Signs and marches are all well and good, but alone they do nothing. The possibility of sudden disruption to the established order is what scares the ptb into making changes, and those changes only come when the demands of nonviolent protesters are deemed to be the acceptable, reasonable alternative to something else--something more violent and unacceptable. Yes, it's scary, but that is all there is. I'm no spring chicken. This is what I perceive to be the way of it.
And btw, screw the ultra-rightwings. At this point, after all they've done, they should be freaking out.
P.S. I'm not advocating anything--just my thoughts on how the system works.
