Ron Paul Supporters Invade LA Times Festival of Books, Make Asses of Themselves

Ron Paul Supporters Invade LA Times Festival of Books, Make Asses of Themselves

Just like their candidate, Ron Paul supporters don't seem to know the meaning of the words "sit down."

It took an auditorium full of annoyed bookish types to start yelling this command during the Q&A session of the Narrating Disaster panel at this past weekend's Los Angeles Times Festival of Books for not one, but two avid Ron Paul supporters who began shouting accusatory remarks at no one in particular.

It all started because Robert Scheer was on the panel, nestled between Amy Wilentz, the author of several books, and Joel Achenbach, who recently wrote the book A Hole in the Bottom of the Sea about the BP Oil Spill. For more detail about just how out of place Scheer was at this table, you might want to ask Wilentz, who didn't care to hide her sentiments on that subject. Suffice it to say that the only disaster Scheer seemed to have narrated was the absurdly tenacious political campaign of Ron Paul.

But where it really got out of hand was after Scheer had stopped his monologue for Q&A, a couple of minutes gracefully set aside by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Barry Siegel, the moderator of the panel, and the head of the Literary Journalism department at UC Irvine.

Oh...my...God...

It's like there's a pullstring Paulbot doll and they kept playing with it. All of the generic responses.

I really don't know who I hate more, Gonzo Ronzo or his rabid cultists. Seriously, his followers ruin everything. My aunt posted something on Facebook about having a 4th of July BBQ, something fairly innocent, no? Anyway, one of her friends who is a Paulbot started spouting out absolute nonsense about how America was dead, and how there should be a new Revolution, and how celebrating and eating / drinking was what the establishment wanted us to do for complacence. She eventually deleted the post, and didn't invite that person.

They don't seem to know when to shut it off and get back into real life, or remember exactly what they were doing. "Hey guys, let's go to a panel on disasters!" Then, like the Incredible Hulk, the transformation was triggered, seemingly at random. Suddenly, they all turned into mindless brutes with no sense of civility, completely ruining everything they were doing.

He's still a racist, but you're sure making him look good.

It was a rhetorical question. And it does make up part of real life when you're using it to send out an electronic invitation to a REAL LIFE barbecue. Also, if one of your REAL LIFE friends (who happens to be a Libertarian) responds, completely derailing the thread.
