70 years ago today we lost our greatest modern president

Franklin Roosevelt passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage at age 63. Only weeks after being sworn in to an unprecedented fourth term, and tragically before he could accomplish his next goal - the Second Bill of Rights - which would have guaranteed a truly egalitarian America, making the freedom from fascism we fought for overseas a reality at home.
"In our day these economic truths have become accepted as self-evident. We have accepted, so to speak, a second Bill of Rights under which a new basis of security and prosperity can be established for all regardless of station, race, or creed.
Among these are:

The right to a useful and remunerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the Nation;
The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation;
The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living;
The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad;
The right of every family to a decent home;
The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health;
The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment;
The right to a good education.

All of these rights spell security. And after this war is won we must be prepared to move forward, in the implementation of these rights, to new goals of human happiness and well-being.
America's own rightful place in the world depends in large part upon how fully these and similar rights have been carried into practice for our citizens. For unless there is security here at home there cannot be lasting peace in the world." [http://bit.ly/1O3Ecd5]
What's left of his policies - what Republicans and Corporate Democrats haven't succeeded in whittling away - continue to give the working class a hand up and keep millions out of poverty.
"As his funeral train made its way across the nation, a man was found weeping along the route, and was asked if he had known FDR. 'I didn't know him,' the man replied. 'But he knew me.' "
Time to make FDR's Second Bill of Rights a reality. Time for a NEW, New Deal.

for this 'Bill of Rights'. Huge uphill battle, mind you, with you know who....but I would sign up, be a part of, the big battle to get this done for ALL americans. Even those who would votes against their own best interests at the behest of the corporations and the fascists.

I think she seems somewhat angry, but not too much and at the right people, the banks.

I like Bernie, but I think 2 things -- 1. He's an admitted socialist, something that b o there ME not at all, but

you know the R's will run with it.

2. He looks older than he is. All that said,I'd vote for either in a heart beat.

my heart I agree with you but it makes me very sad that I feel that way.

And yes I would vote for either of them and in the general election I will vote for the winner of the primary. I think that both Warren and Saunders are in a very good position to continue to influence the Congress and the President right were they are. So if I lose it is no big deal. I will support Hillary.

Hell, I'm 65 and started coming up against age disiscrimination about 10 years ago,

so I'm not happy to point that sort of thing either.

As to Bernies and Elizabeth's influence, I agree with you 100%.

You could hear it in Hillary's opening bid yesterday.

whatever happens, I'll vote for whoever the party nominates.

Would that any Dem candidate on the horizon had these views...or balls.

“We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.
They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob.
Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred.”

Museum and Memorial in Normandy. The Greatest President the US has ever had, elected 4 terms, 1932-1944. Guided us through the Great Depression and WWII. How much we owe him, his cabinet and administration and those who worked progressively for decades before to make America a great country with a middle class the envy of the world.
