'Stop this nonsense': Boston mayor tells residents not to jump from windows into snow

The Massachusetts city has received seven and a half feet of snow since late
January, and with little else to do, snowbound residents are taking advantage

“This isn’t Loon Mountain. This is the city of Boston.”

That was the message from Boston mayor Marty Walsh on Monday, at a press conference in which he warned residents against jumping out of windows to land in the snow.

Boston residents, so far, have paid little heed. Using the hashtag #BostonBlizzardChallenge, they have been sharing videos of themselves diving, sometimes from first floor windows, into the huge banks of snow that have accumulated in the streets below.

I was a student at MSU, living in the dorms. We got 38" of snow on a Friday afternoon/evening. The winds were horrible and the snow drifted to the roofs of some low buildings, like the Erickson Kiva. On Monday, all classes were cancelled for the first time in MSU history.

All over campus students were jumping off roofs into snow drifts, sometimes to their peril. One student broke his back when he collided with a bike rack hidden under the drift.

It is a mindlessly stupid thing to do.
