Since they were demolishing the bridge, it sounds like the company handling the removal of the bridge screwed up somewhere and mis-calculated how much structural support they could remove and still have the bridge remain standing. This had nothing to do with infrastructure spending, the bridge was being demolished because it had been replaced with a newer, bigger bridge.
