This of "world leaders" on a blocked, guarded side street for 20 paces.
vs
This of over a million people.

(8,554 posts)if Obama would have actually chosen to drop everything to jump on a plane for that photo-op?
All of this disingenuous carping about the USA's absence from that "photo" (not the demonstration; none of those foreign leaders actually marched with the people of France) at a time when practically all of Europe is operating under a heightened security alert is just another attempt by Republicans to blame our prez for lax policies.
He most likely is so busy worrying about security in this nation, who would wish him to be sidetracked by such trivial matters as appearing in a picture, except for Republicans?

(53,661 posts)Safe to be in a crowd? Check
Elected officials beholden to their own people's security and expected to return home to take care of the business of their country, and not of France. With daily death threats:
Safe to be in a crowd?
Check? Who's kidding who here?
This is more media manipulation. They decide what is important and the viewers ride the tide the media the creates with storm warnings.
Frankly, despite the horror of the killings and the fear the threats engendered, statistically, how many people* - in this case the focus in the media is on Muslims - are actually committing these crimes?
Believe me, I can hardly concieve that I am taking *this tack* on this. I just feel we are being messed with and our minds being diverted for someone else's purposes, and njot in order to come to a good end.
Is this of any more important than a mass murder in America, or the bombing of a NAACP office, or the militia roaming about not just inciting, but arming for insurrection in this country?
Those are real people dead. This was IRL and it takes from all of us. What struck was the comparison. What is being pushed, made to our minds the chief issue of the day, a call to 'DO SOMETHING NOW!'?
At the back of it are the calls to do something drastic. It's a matter of opinion if taking undemocratic actions to save the institutions are meant to safeguard the proces, is needed now. Why not prove it with logic and discussion, instead of pumping up outrage over these petty things to blame someone for not assisting media in another dramatic presentation.
Mind you, such productions will not be followed by an honest dialog but more likely a commercial for something that is of no importance, but hey, whatever sells! What is being sold by media here - not just that terrorists are bad but the heads of ther same government and that government as well, are all bad. Take your pick!
MSM will wring every ounce of ink, every electron online, pixel on a screen and decibel on talk shows at any angle to put us off real issues.
Your take on this is right...

(8,554 posts)or when McCain goes on CNN to imply that Obama doesn't understand "the gravity" of the threat we face from the Islamic State; or worse, (I can't remember if it was Rubio or Santorum) saying that Obama and European leaders have taken to a policy of "appeasing radical Islam" which allows terror like the Charlie Hebdo massacre to happen; and Cruz, of course, has jumped on the "seal the border" wagon train...it just reminds me of the aftermath of 9/11, all over again. The main difference this time is that the methods for mass manipulation are so very well established on the MSM since they've had twelve years to settle into that position. Practiced. And the head-bobbing of their commentators all week (and especially today) have clearly demonstrated that.
I was steaming mad this morning when I surfed channels trying to find something, anything, that spoke of the massive Paris march and the worldwide demonstrations in support of France, without focusing on that blasted photo-op. I found nothing. The photo-op was the story.

(8,554 posts)and who was not in the picture
I haven't seen them show anything like your bottom picture, an image of what was real, the massive presence of almost four million people in the streets of Paris on Sunday. Not since CNN International got over.
