I was a huge Clinton supporter over the years (less so during 2008), but now I find myself more and more irritated by what appears to be a lack of authenticity. I want to understand why she transforms when in campaign mode. Is it that she's surrounded by terrible advisers, that she desperately wants to be president and is terrified of making a gaffe, or is it simply that she's shy (or introverted?)? I'm praying that she will break out of her shell and show us who she really is this time around.
If I were advising her, I'd tell her to say what she means and mean what she says. Don't wait for public opinion polls: Instead, try to SHAPE public opinion if she feels her view is the correct one. If she's really a warhawk, she should own it and explain why. If she's really pro-Wall Street? Again, own it. If she's NOT those things, make that clear and stop trying to kiss rightwing ass! By being honest, a lot of people will get pissed off, but dammit, she will be respected for that honesty. Worst case scenario, she gets to spend more time with her grandchild. That's actually not so bad!

Is it that she's surrounded by terrible advisers? Absolutely and obviously; see not only the 2008 campaign but whoever more recently thought that "dead broke" and "corporations don't create jobs" were good talking points. Her people are terrible, but Hillaryland is such a big and hermetically-sealed bubble that she can's tell. She also seems to value loyalty above competence (again, see 2008).She desperately wants to be president and is terrified of making a gaffe? This seems clear too, but is more understandable give the decades-long savaging she's taken at the hands of the media. It's also the case that, except for having a philandering husband, Hillary isn't really someone most Americans can relate too; she was born into relative privilege, attended elite schools, became a successful professional and member of the 1%. She seems very comfortable among her own kind, but certainly lacks teh common touch; given her ambition, that can only make her look stiff, scripted, and inauthentic.
Or is it simply that she's shy (or introverted?)? Maybe. I've actually been around her in a couple of social settings, and she seems more like someone who's naturally reserved than someone who's aloof.
