‘Religious freedom’ advances in MI

"Michigan’s Republican-controlled House of Representatives has passed a controversial religious freedom bill, teeing up what civil liberties advocates fear will be another wave of GOP-backed legislation that could cripple LGBT rights."

100% this is aimed at open discrimination against gay Americans. But could also incite open discrimination and violence against women, minorities, atheists, secularists, the educated, the poor, children, reproductive rights, medicine, health care, police/fire protection, employment, housing, court rights, law, etc. There is NOTHING this noxious bill wouldn't legitimatize. Even bogus "fetal personhood." This is, essentially, "Stand Your Ground" for extreme rightwing Christians.

I honestly do not know WTF happened. There used to be more of "us" than them

Enshrining the ability to be an effing bigot in law .... my heart breaks

The Religious Freedom Restoration Act, HB 5958, which provides protections for people who object to providing services because of a sincerely held religious belief, passed the House without a single vote from Democrats, who call it a license to discriminate. Republicans call it a protection to practice faith without fear of reprisals. The GOP-led Senate is expected to at least discuss the bill.
