The gas-guzzling Hummer makes a comeback as fuel prices plunge

Oil prices are down to their lowest level in years, and drivers are seeing their money go a lot further at the pump.

(This story is based on a radio interview. Listen to the full interview.)

But while it might be nice to pay less than $60 for a tank of gas, some people are apparently thinking the price drop means it's a good time to pick up a Hummer.

General Motors actually doesn't make new Hummers anymore, explains Chico Harlan, who has been reporting on a recent spike in sales of SUVs and trucks for the Washington Post, so "we’re talking about used-car lot sales — but we’re talking about an 11 percent bump for Hummers."

And that's not the only vehicle aving a sudden resurgence: Lincoln Navigators had their best sales month on record, while Ford Explorers were at their highest level since 2004. SUVs across the board had a terrific month, Harlan says.

year old son and I were noticing this a few weeks ago. He made a comment about how there "are a lot of Hummers out today" I told him gas prices have dropped so people are taking them out for a spin.

I find it crazy. Do people really think prices are going to stay this low?

they are a waste. Most people who drive them either have very bad depth perception or they are flexing their auto muscles if you catch my drift. SMH

Much better 4X4.Hummers are 3/4 ton pickup trucks in ugly stupid clothes.A Unimog can climb a telephone pole.

parked by the day report center by the courthouse.

It was rusted all to hell, I'd be really mad if my 80k real hummer was in such rough shape. The owner had bolted diamond tread below the doors and the fender wells all had major rust. I suppose aftermarket bodies are hard to come by.

As for the Chevy Tahoe based "hummers" I hardly ever see those on the road.
