for any politician to disagree aloud with that sentiment and retain his job.

Republicans had to at least PRETEND that their policies were better for everyone, not just the 1%.

Nothing communistic about wanting a society based on equality and justice. The US of AMERICA which is supposed to lift all boats is not the breeding ground for fascists, tyrants or criminals. And yet, our govt stood by while WALL STREET THUGS stole millions from the american people through bogus investments and savaging of pensions. No one has a right to PROFIT off the bounty of others by robbing, stealing or cheating. STEALING IS CRIMINAL and criminals on WALL STREET, the insurance industry and in govs deserve to be in jail. Elizabeth WARREN said it, the FACTORY OWNER did not make his goods alone: He had workers educated by US, he had roads built by US and most of all he could ship his goods safe from hijacking. Not only that you should not dismiss the fact that many of these WALL STREET TYPES got their wealth through CHEATING< STEALING and favorable govt actions. We the people paid for BLACKWATER MERCENARIES and Prince's wealth, WE the people PAID Halliburtan to cheat us during a time of war and produce shoddy work. WE the people are paying privateers to get rich off prison systems and WE the people paid all those NO BID contracts that CHENEY disbursed for IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN.

and traced how income inequality was one of the biggest factors contributing to the downfall of former world powers. Other factors included excessive military spending, and a shift from manufacturing to financial services as a country's means of producing income. Sounds familiar doesn't it? He also condemned the concentration of wealth as an impediment to a democratic government.

Needless to say he is no longer a member of the Republican party and is in fact one its biggest critics.

Obama is afraid of even appearing to be a leftist/liberal, much less actually being one.

I neither recognize nor acknowledge the alleged value of the thing that calls itself "the Democratic Party" these days.

Indeed. Who is that FDR asshole? He's hurting our chances to get re-elected!

FDR was right, the rich are not paying their fair share. And for all their griping, WE WERE ALL BETTER OFF BEFORE RONALD REAGAN, GROVER NORQUIST, KARL ROVE AND BUSH/CHENEY. We are nation of equals. Watch Born Yesterday last night. It was interesting how the hero ( WM HOLDEN) defended the fact that there were a few corrupt politicians at the time in WASHINGTON who could be bought. And yet, now we have to really work hard to find out which one is not influenced by money. As Holden indicated, millionaires are selfish and selfishness can lead to fascism. The WALTONs are enjoying 2nd generation money as are the KOCHS and yet they would destroy the lives of millions of HUMAN BEINGS to secure their financil empires.

"For 12 years this nation was afflicted with hear-nothing, see-nothing, do-nothing government. The nation looked to government but the government looked away. Nine mocking years with the golden calf and three long years of the scourge! Nine crazy years at the ticker and three long years in the breadlines! Nine mad years of mirage and three long years of despair! Powerful influences strive today to restore that kind of government with its doctrine that that government is best which is most indifferent to mankind.

"For nearly four years you have had an administration which instead of twirling its thumbs has rolled up its sleeves. We will keep our sleeves rolled up.

"We had to struggle with the old enemies.... business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering.

"They had begun to consider the government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that government by organized money is just as dangerous as government by organized mob.

Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me -- and I welcome their hatred."

McDonald's and Walmart, as they are now, wouldn't exist if we enforced the antitrust laws that have been on the books for decades.
