The kkkountry klan condemned, boycotted, and threatened the lives of the Dixie Chicks for "disrespecting" the President during a time of war, yet they gave Hank jr. a standing ovation for the same thing.

I do not understand why this double standard continues.

One more thing: F**K country "music".

Im starting to think the obvious double standards are accepted by our party as a means of keeping the conservative ideals relevant in our political system.

Put another way, the Dems are happy to be thought of as the weaker of the two parties in the Kabuki Theater they both play to satisfy their elite financers.

. . . because they have the DNC doing their job for them on this.

Nothing in that statement repudiated anything the DNC chair said. The WH simply said the President wasn't going to be bothered to personally respond to every idiotic and 'vile' statement from republican surrogates.

It's typical for the 'Examiner' to try and make this some wedge between the WH and the DNC chair. That's not what happened here. It's more of an attempt to keep the President out of the swamp and to let his own 'surrogates' handle the light stuff. Why should he lower himself to respond to an aging rocker with Tourette's?

. . . he has an entire campaign of folks to do that for him. i don't know what you believe would be accomplished for the President to put himself on an equal plane with Nugent; possibly encouraging some back and forth which would only serve to elevate Nugent from the nobody shitstirrer he really is. Don't expect that this won't be addressed on a higher plane by the President in a way which serves his own timing and agenda against his republican nominee. Right now, his DNC is handling it.

the likes of the Nugents and their vile words should not have any power over the President. The President is above this petty stupidity and if he got into the swill ring this time, then he'd be expected to get in every time.

so no no no no no.

This is not a conversation the Presdent should be having and I am relieved it is being handled this way. The usual way.

But under the recently-promulgated Hilary Rosen Rule, it's now up to every candidate to answer for anything any political operative anywhere says. This strict standard was applied to the Obama administration for an off-the-cuff comment made by Ms. Rosen (which had the extra added advantage of being 100% true); why can't Romney be made to answer for the stupid ramblings of Mr. Nugent, delivered at one of the GOP's holiest of assemblies?

I'm just looking for a little fairness and balance, that's all.

Hilary Rosen's remark became notorious only after it was repeated and spun by every RW talker and blogger and Faux news. It was then picked up by the mainstream media and became an issue. I suppose if the folks at MSNBC, Stephanie Miller, and other liberal talkers start demanding a rebuke from Mittens, then maybe the MSM will follow. The RWers are very good of taking a spark and making a fire out of it. The Left, not so much. We are gretting better at it though.

the DNC is the President's political arm. Nothing in the WH statement 'forgives' or forgets -- or even contradicts the DNC chief. This is the WH refusing to lower themselves to respond to an insignificant creep; all the while, their political arm takes out the trash.

It's not surprising to see the right-wing Examiner try and spin this as some sort of reprieve for Nugent from the President. If it served their warped agenda, they'd work overtime to insist that the DNC and the WH are one in the same.

Yes it pisses me off also. I believe we have more effective ways to fight back beyond standing on the other side of the school yard, calling names and making silly threats.
Though I do hope that the FBI asks Nugent exactly what he was talking about.
Listen, let's face it.
Those that think that the ramblings of a mediocre guitar player, one hit wonder, that doesn't have the where with all to deal with a Marshal head, must less a gun are a code to live by; won't exactly listen to our complaints.
Did I just say something like, don't get mad, wait for the opportunity, then get even.
