There are plenty of times when I suspect CIA involvement (I've been alive 1/2 a century and was protesting US involvement in El Salvador back in college ....) but I don't see that here. The US owes China way too much money to get on it's bad side.
The people of Hong Kong were promised democratic elections. Unlike Americans they are ready to fight for that right. My only comment is Solidarity.

both minorities and women have fought at times. I would've liked more enthusiasm when Bush stole the election from Gore however - there were some who protested but not the electorate at large. Similarly we seem to be allowing corporations to take over the country without much fight. My opinion. But I do take your point that there are some who have fought very hard.
