http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/09/22/emma_watson_attacked_after_un_speech_on_feminism_4chan_users_threaten_to.html?wpsrc=fol_fbBut, you know, none of the people who leak nude photos are doing it because they resent or even hate women...

(110,159 posts)that is going on here.
men have no other means of holding women down, putting them in their place. this is their last stand. and they are out in force. the degradation is happening on the net, the media, the entertainments.
it is all about shaming, degrading and humiliating

(22,336 posts)women get called "slut" or "prude," and both are ridiculous meaningless categories made up for no reason other than to try to control women through their sexuality. Any woman can be called either, and a woman can be called one and then called the other. They aren't about any kind of truth, only control.

(110,159 posts)get off on the pictures, once they were stolen. or stated the obvious victim blaming that it was the womans fault for even taking the pictures. all the dots close together, giving us an easy picture of privilege, to see.
no consent there was no consent to turn these women into mens porn to use to get off on. no consent.
and the argument for men and their porn, is consent.
they fail, as decent progressive humans. and it was clear to all.
that pisses the men off. they want the right. they do not feel htey need the consent. they are privileged. they are entitled. no clearer evidence women do not count as a human being.
in self reflection, it pisses them off, and instead of learning and progressing they double down. to look more the creep.

(19,497 posts)Presumably 4Chan is NOT arguing "Men don't need to be included in the conversation, we'll just dictate terms of your surrender." Presumably they are pro-feminist. Presumably, if you were to ask them on any given day, "Should women be free to speak their minds?" the answer would come back with a resounding, "Yes."
But this is a reprehensible act of what is little more than sexualized extortion to remain silent on a position they don't agree with and apparently aren't smart enough to properly comprehend.
If the debate is: Should outside parties be allowed to weigh-in on issues pertaining to a particular group? 4Chan has said "Maybe not all outside parties, and we'll be the reason why."

(7,947 posts)Speak out about it? Ok. Then what? If a guy in a car honks at a random woman on the street and I'm walking in the same area and see it happen, do I try to run the car down to say he shouldn't do that? 4chan is an anonymous website. The people there are going to do what they do.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)some may challenge if we accomplish anything in conversation. i feel that conversation is the only way to understanding, recognizing a problem, educating ourselves to address and resolve.
this is no different.
and with every example of men, using womens sexuality to degrade, shame and humiliate, we have more and more people on our side in awareness. which is exactly what has happened over the last couple years, instilling a fear for so many that are lashing out now.
and they become more and more obvious. it cannot any longer be dismissed as just a few, but a cultural acceptance.
in that recognition, we then have people standing up and speaking out, saying.... not ok. then we create change.

(14,554 posts)I think pointing it out, someone -- anyone-- saying, "Hey, this is not ok -- we see what you are trying to do" DOES help. It moves us closer to change. Silence is seen as consent. We have to condemn things like this or it will never get better.

(7,947 posts)At some point it's just going around in circles.
With something like 4chan, it's not even a workplace where you can make sexual harassment laws. Other than the authorities trying to arrest the guy that hacks a phone for the pictures, what is there to do about it? It's a pretty simple issue. There aren't a lot of variables involved. Acknowledging that it's wrong, and then...?

(110,159 posts)by listening. the efforts to take conversation in circles. i do not participate.
there is no circle for the terrorism 4 chan and others are committing toward women.
no a circle. not a swivel. they have reduced it to a very short, striaght, in our face, obvious line.
one sees.
and if one does not see?
i move on.
no circle for me.

You may do what you wish, as my permission is hardly required for any actions of petulance taken by others... regardless of how one minimizes and trivializes valid concerns.
