Former Baltimore Raven is all for beating his kid, claims he was beaten.

And he thinks it "helped" him.

Ex-NFL Player Who Was Abused With A 'Bullwhip' Tells CNN Why He Also Beats His Child

A former professional football player on Sunday defended the idea of corporal punishment for children, recalling that he was beaten with a bullwhip, broomstick, extension cord and even left in a hot car as a child.

A former professional football player on Sunday defended the idea of corporal punishment for children, recalling that he was beaten with a bullwhip, broomstick, extension cord and even left in a hot car as a child.

Shannon Sharpe, who played for the Baltimore Ravens before Ray Rice was drafted, said that it was not reasonable to expect the NFL to take on violence against children and women.

The usual excuse is If "I" had to endure it, then YOU SHOULD TOO--it made me the person I am today!!!

I look at the quarters that sailors are afforded at sea, and I think "Wow, what I would have given to have something like that when I was coming up in rank!" I think it's GREAT, these modern conveniences. If I had enjoyed ready access to something as simple as email in my formative years, that would have saved me hundreds of dollars in telephone bills every month, for example.

However, I know plenty of angry old codgers who sneer that these same kids (who are some of the smartest going) are "soft" and "have it easy" and they sound as though they'd be happier if the youngsters endured the same misery as those "bad old days."

I'm sure the guys who slept in hammocks just above stacks of weaponry thought my generation had it easy, too!

The justification for the inhuman hours medical doctors endure in their residencies. What fraternities and sororities do to their new members. And so on.

I try to notice when I start falling into that trap, and don't assume that the misery I endured somewhere is what everyone else should endure.

Amazing how people can get the wrong impression.

I'll bet all those people who were wanting Peterson to get thrown in jail feel pretty silly right about now. See, maybe he was beaten as a kid as well. Which would of course make it understandable for him to beat his kid bloody.

Jesus effing christ what is wrong with these douchebags. Is he really that obtuse or is he trying to minimize his buddy's crimes?

Either way he's doing a really crappy job of it. Maybe the entire NFL ought to just shut down and give these assholes something to get pissed off about. Like having to go out and get a real job where nobody kisses their as and they are expected to do something productive.

Nor are a lot of his compatriots.

That's why he's engaging in a litany of ham-handed factors in mitigation. That's why he's trying to "help" with his personal anecdotes.

It's not going over terribly well.
