I just got an e-mail from a right winger, attacking me for an essay on my Web site. These guys really are crazy. I've reproduced his letter in this blog post:

I ran a web blog that wasn't nearly as progressive as yours, and got far worse. Not very well spelled either.

I've had a fair amount of hate mail, usually of about that level of anger. Nothing compared to what Kos gets, of course.

I gave it up a few years back. When people started saying they would show up at non-political events that I mentioned being at, and that they would shoot me or rape my girlfriend to "see how I'd like it", it turned me off to the whole thing.

Maybe you should contact the police? I'm so sorry someone felt obligated to send you their crazy threats.

Recently my mother was going to come and visit me from the east coast. She's a birther, listens to Rush watches FOX. She hasn't seen my kids (now 7 and 5) for five years. I asked her to not bring up politics since we don't agree on much so we could all have a pleasant visit. She flipped out, threatened to call CPS and have the state force me to send my kids out to her since I was brainwashing them and sent several emails where she accused me of being the "enemy." All for asking her to not bring up a subject we don't agree on anyway. Perhaps right leaning news programs must be spreading the idea that liberals and progressives are the enemy? I dunno. Anyway, she didn't come out which was a relief. We didn't talk for a while and recently she sent me an apology. Crazy though.

What was your relationship like then?

It's depressing to hear of parents saying such things to their children. Rush and Fox and the rest really are achieving a kind of brainwashing.

10. No not at all

My mom used to be a sweet hippie artist who always voted democratic. I truly blame her change of heart on fox news. My father watches it every nite from seven until eleven pm. She always was quite gullible though. I keep hoping Fox will go away.

It's stated in a general sort of way.

And threats against the left seem to be dismissed as meaningless, as opposed to the other way around.

I'd try to trace the e-mail. At the very least, his ISP might ban him.
