Depression - "The Bush Recession". Surely if the shoe were on the other foot and Obama preceded Bush they would have called it - the Obama Recession.
We should have been calling it "The Bush Recession" from the very first day Obama took office and we should still be referring to it as such.
Why don't the Dems fight fire with fire and use the same naming tactics as the Repugs do.
Surely this was "The Bush Recession".

(24,461 posts)They were allowed to label it "The Obama Recession" even before Obama served minute ONE in office. Search me how you make THAT canyon leap in logic, but there it is . . .

(6,091 posts)I was going to say that we could call it whatever we want to call it but no one would hear it because no news outlet would repeat it enough times for it to stick. You have to have connections to power and corporate elites to have your message resonate.

(25,247 posts)If the Obama Administration and the Dems coined it "The Bush Recession" and everytime they used this phrase to refer to the economic downturn - it would have stuck. Everytime any Dem Senator or Rep would be on the Sunday shows and everytime they would appear as a guest on any of the cable news shows - if they used the phrase "The Bush Recession" - it would have stuck. All the left leaning talking heads would have picked up the phrase and used it as well - it would have stuck.
The MSM would have to play back clips with the phrase being uttered. Newspapers would have had to print it. We here at DU would be using the phrase when we referred to it and it would be picked up in blogs all over the Internet.
The Progressive radio hosts would have repeated it and used it in their commentary. It would have stuck.
That's exactly what the Repugs do to get a phrase catch on by the American public and press.
We're just not good at doing that - and I believe we missed a golden opportunity.
