I'm just heading to the polling place. On the Democratic side, we have just one contested primary race: State auditor. One candidate is the current incumbent, and the other is a Democrat who is looking for a stepping stone to the Governor's race four years from now. I'll be voting for the incumbent.
Lots of contested races on the Republican side. Most are of the dumb and dumber variety. Since I never vote for any Republicans in any election, I'll be taking the Democratic ballot.

(146,325 posts)After the primaries, I'll spend more time looking at all of the congressional district races. For now, I've been working on the race in my own district, where Betty McCollum is certain to win. My yard signs go up tomorrow, after Primary Day.
District 8 will be interesting, for sure, though.

(17,574 posts)Hard to believe it's being called a tossup, but you never know. Rick Nolan is the incumbent and represents the district well. His GOP competitor is millionaire partydude Stewart Mills III, scion of the Mills car dealerships in and around Brainerd and the regional chain Mills Fleet Farm. A one-trick pony, who seems only to be running on Second Amendment fears.. er.. issues. Has a reputation of being a party animal and looking vaguely like Brad Pitt. Quoted as saying he finds it personally offensive that wealthy people should pay their share of taxes, a quote he (naturally) denied.
If we can't beat this duuuuuuude, we don't deserve to win. As my brother-in-law used to say, we pick our Miss Americas by how smart they are and our politicians by how good they look on TV.

(17,574 posts)and licking another woman's face. Amazingly, they're gone now.
This guy could end up being Minnesota's own Rob Ford.
And naturally he's ginning up the Second Amendment fears. His family bidness makes a killing (you should pardon the pun) off of rifles, etc.

(115,815 posts)Seems like I get a different one every day. The guy really, really wants to be State Auditor (I think this obviously expensive campaign is mostly self-financed), and I really, really don't want him to be. He's a weasel. Guess I'll have some coffee and head out to vote for the incumbent.

(146,325 posts)This time, there's one important race, and whoever wins will be the next Auditor. I don't like Entenza, either.

(115,815 posts)And I hope Entenza wasted his money.

(146,325 posts)I got there just in time for the afternoon rush. There were two other people there who came in right after my wife and I got there. The poll workers gave us a little cheer. Primary turnout is never good. This year, with little at state for the DFL candidates even fewer showed up. My precinct is heavily Democratic, too, so the GOOPers didn't show, either.
