(38,613 posts)Getting former news talking-heads to go out there, family, etc. I am astonished at the effort they are putting into it, and desperation of their claims. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.

google twin lakes shooting initial report to read the entire report, if you want.
you are right it does not say broken nose.

(31,706 posts)The combination of ambiguous laws and an inept Police Department have turned this tragedy into a circus. Due process be damned as everyone has their "expert" opinion based on mostly speculation and circumstantial evidence. This story hits all the hot buttons of the media and thus anyone and everyone who is near a microphone or related to a principal in this story is out there getting their two cents in. The lack of facts and evidence is filled with assumption...not how due process works. The real tragedy here is how badly the Florida justice system is broken and how brazen the media becomes in trying to manipulate a story for their own purposes.

(72 posts)It's not the media's fault:
1. That George Zimmerman racially profiled, stalked, then shot and killed Trayvon Martin.
2. That the police didn't do their jobs.
All this talk about "Trial by media" of poor George Zimmerman is getting tired. The media isn't hurting him. The FACTS that people do have now are what's making him look bad. That and the easily disproven lies from him, and his family. One such lie: George Zimmerman's father said Trayvon Martin's girlfriend was not talking to Trayvon Martin on the phone when the incident happened, even though there are phone records that prove she was. Excuse me for not having any sympathy for George Zimmerman who decided to play judge, trial, and jury to Trayvon Martin.
It's a free country. People have a right to put in their "two cents, or give their "expert opinion," or whatever. Because we all know that in real life people aren't convicted in a court of law by "Trial by media."

(31,706 posts)Firstly, I'm not defending "poor" Zimmerman...there's more to his story that is being covered up and fabricated in this media circus. Depending on who you listen to he's either some racist ogre that deserves to be strung up without any due process or he's some great "hero" of the second ammendment who felt his life was threatened by Skittles, Ice Tea and a hoodie. Either or all these "evaluations" are based on the spin presented in the media. Yes, it's trial by media...and that will especially be the case should Zimmerman be indicted and put on a real trial by a jury of his peers...many who have been inundated with this circus that is heavy on opinion and short on fact.
Truth is neither you nor I nor Lawrence O'Donnell or the Man in the Moon knows the real facts in this case other than the sketchy he said/he said soundbites being bantered about. I'm willing to allow a federal investigation (that supposedly is now underway) to come up with the facts and then lets see where things go.
Yes it's a "free" country (that is if you have the billions of dollars to own a media outlet) and people can give their "two cents". Around here it's more like $1,000...but that's all well and good. But please don't consider conjecture as fact...that's why we have this thing called "due process" that is being left in the dust in this rush to judgement. I'd like to think the concept of innocent unless proven guilty still exists in this country and its not some dude sitting in a TV studio who determines that but a jury of peers. If Zimmerman is a racist vigilante those facts will come out in a court room not on MSNBC or faux or Chicken Noodle Nuze...

(134 posts)I don't think the family is intentionally lying. I think they genuinely believe every word George is telling them.
The alternative is to admit that their son, brother is a cold-blooded killer.
They have no choice.

(113,278 posts)you don't think the family is intentionally lying? in what alternate universe? look at the history of what daddy the judge has covered up.
enjoy your undoubtedly short stay

(134 posts)I DO think George is lying.
I think there is a good chance that his family believes every word out of his mouth, though, as they are family, and afraid to face the alternative.
But way to attack me without apparently understanding what I said?

(113,278 posts)given zimmerman's violent history (which you can look up) AND that video, his family has to know he is lying, and they are covering up, like they have in the past. their CHOICE could be to not make things up, and not add to the freaking media circus.

(134 posts)Believe me. I have a cousin who was in and out of prison all his teens and young adult life.
Then, he was accused of molesting his girlfriend's daughter. My family didn't believe it. They didn't believe it when he was charged. They didn't believe it when it was proven, and he was convicted. They still don't believe it, now that he's in prison for a loooooooong time for it, either.
Don't expect family members to act rationally when their family members are in legal trouble.

(89,247 posts)they do have a choice. there are many parents who turn in their kids for crimes.
fuck them. sorry but if i had a family member who murdered i woudl turn them in, if i wasn't able to i sure owuldn't go out defending them.
this family makes me sick.

(15,481 posts)In a situation like this, I think family is going to convince themselves that everything that their son tells them is the truth, no matter how ridiculous.
It has to be hard to come to terms with the fact that your son is a cold-blooded killer, and it's going to take them a while to grasp that.
That's only natural.

(134 posts)I know if something happened, and my son was implicated, I would want to believe their story. I would probably want to fight anyone who didn't believe my child.
It would probably take far more evidence to convince me that he had done it that it would take to convince a jury to convict.
I think most parents would do the same, whether it's rational or not.

(5,032 posts)as to what happened (which he did not see) and what was said (which he sure as hell didn't hear).
Any decent reporter would KNOW that this is hearsay and the Judge DEFINITELY knows this, yet he has cherry picked a venue to spout off in an attempt to formulate self defense where there isn't any.
