Every time I write anything about Floridas Governor Rick Scott, I still cant believe this guy won his election. Its bad enough he was CEO of a company that was found guilty of defrauding hundreds of millions of dollars from Medicare. One would think that would have disqualified him from having any chance at winning, but he rode the tea party crazy train in 2010 to victory.
Needless to say, his first term as governor has been an absolute embarrassment.
And the embarrassments continued to pile up recently when Scott tried to get a group of 20 seniors to bash the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), but instead got mostly praise about President Obamas signature health care law.
Im completely satisfied, Harvey Eisen, 92, a West Boca resident, told Scott.

(27,137 posts)And one elderly lady made an absolutely great point:
Were all just sitting here taking it for granted that because we have Medicare we dont want to lose one part of it. Thats wrong to me. I think we have to spread it around. This is the United States of America. Its not the United States of senior citizens, Rubin said. Though I think its vital that we ensure our elderly have access to health care, the point she seemed to be trying to make is that its unfair to support the socialized medical program for seniors (thats very popular with those seniors by the way) while condemning a law which aims to provide access to health care for Americans of all ages.

(8,292 posts)I've had to ask one of my military retirees that still works as well, how come you're entitled to the best health care but no other citizens are?
Shut him down.

(12,159 posts)I was under the impression that people covered by Medicare were out of the ACA loop since they are insured-just like ACA does not affect me as I am insured through my employment.
If I am right Scott was asking the wrong group of people.

(3,596 posts)I believe the biggest one was to help, not completely eliminate, the problem with the donut hole in Medicare Rx coverage.
But you are correct that in general things like doctor visits, diagnostic tests, hospitalization, etc. are covered under Medicare Parts A and B for which those over age 65 qualify.

(26,549 posts)That was the basis for Republicans screaming "Obama cut your Medicare!!!" in 2010.

(27,137 posts)...in the Sun-Sentinel, Scott was out trolling for horror stories by telling people that Obamacare was causing cuts in Medicare:
What he found was a satisfied group with few complaints.
The 20 seniors assembled for a roundtable with Scott at the Volen Center were largely content with their Medicare coverage and didnt have negative stories to recount.
And some praised Obamacare a program that Scott frequently criticizes.
Im completely satisfied, Harvey Eisen, 92, a West Boca resident, told Scott.
Eisen told the governor he wasnt sure if, as you say, there are Obamacare-inspired cuts to Medicare. But even if there are, that would be OK. I cant expect that me as a senior citizen are going to get preferential treatment when other programs are also being cut.
