Michael Grimm Surrenders On Federal Charges, Prosecutors Say

NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm was taken into custody Monday to face federal charges stemming from a two-year investigation of his campaign financing, prosecutors said.

The Staten Island Republican was set to be arraigned later Monday in federal court in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors didn't immediately specify the exact charges, but investigators have been examining his fundraising in a 2010 race and his involvement in a Manhattan restaurant. A House Ethics Committee announced in November that Grimm was under investigation for possible campaign finance violations.

Last week, Grimm's lawyer revealed that his client had been told by prosecutors that he would be charged.

EDIT TO UPDATE:

FBI Arrests and Rips Rep. Michael Grimm, an Ex-FBI Agent

The FBI arrested New York Congressman Michael Grimm -- a former FBI agent -- on fraud and perjury charges today and then ripped into him for dishonoring the FBI code.

Grimm, a Republican from New York City's borough of Staten Island, surrendered to the FBI this morning. After taking him into custody FBI Assistant Director George Venizelos issued a scathing assessment of Grimm.

“As a former FBI agent, Representative Grimm should understand the motto: fidelity, bravery, and integrity. Yet he broke our credo at nearly every turn. In this twenty-count indictment, Representative Grimm lived by a new motto: fraud, perjury, and obstruction," Venizelos said.

"We demand the best from our political leaders. Yet today, we again find ourselves expecting and rightfully wanting more. And as citizens of this great nation we rightfully demand it,” the FBI agent said.

Mr. "I'll break you in half, like a boy" needs to be put in his place. Men don't say things like that, only cowards do.

Years of Living Dangerously is an excellent new series on Showtime which focuses on many aspects of climate change. It's a fascinating show. Last nights episode featured Chris Hayes doing a profile of Michael Grimm (R-Staten Island). It was actually rather sickening, as it portrayed him in a very positive light as a hero and a swell guy whose only concern is his constituents (especially one woman, whom they seemed well prepared to follow around with a camera for months documenting Grimm's wonderfulness). It showed Grimm's supposed transformation from a climate change denier to supporting legislation, at the urging of a more sane Republican and Grimm's admission that he "finally did some research." BUT, he had no problem saying that he's weak, Congressmen are weak, and no one will do anything because there is much more important stuff, like immigration.

Chris Hayes ended the show with a wonderful smackdown. But it was otherwise tough to watch them making some sort of demi-god out this scumbag.

Indeed, he is what is referred to as a "flaming asshole" in my area. This distinction helps to identify him as having specific characteristics that the common assholes lack.

it was Darwin who first documented that, over time, selective in-breeding and environment could produce the species known as "flaming assholes."

Kinda annoying how that disappears quickly when you see some politicians get in to trouble.
I am curious as to when Fox will "err" and add a (D) on his name soon, if it hasn't happened already. Then take it off, and never mention a retraction.
