NH lawmaker: Women deserve less pay because they don’t work hard like men

NH lawmaker: Women deserve less pay because they don’t work hard like men

.....................

During a floor debate on Wednesday, state Rep. Will Infantine (R) argued that the “Paycheck Equity Act” was not necessary to prevent wage discrimination based on gender because women deserved to make less.

“Men, by and large, make more because some of the things that they do,” he opined. “Their jobs are, by and large, riskier. They don’t mind working nights and weekends. They don’t mind working overtime or outdoors.”

.................................

“Men work five or six hours longer a week than women do,” he continued. “When it comes to women and men who own businesses… women make half of what men do because of flexibility of work, men are more motivated by money than women are.”

...............................

“Guys! I’m not making this stuff up,” the Republican pleaded. “My apologies if I have some people upset.”

only he'd be blubbering in a corner after the first 10 minutes. And yes, I worked nights, weekends and holidays.

Republicans just can't go a single day without some oaf with a big mouth and no brains insulting women.

pediatric unit at a large teaching hospital. 4 nurses on the 3-11 shift for 31 patients, some of whom would have been in peds ICU if we'd had one (this was back in 1973). We ran our asses off each and every shift.

Ever notice no one ever told a 90 pound woman that she couldn't go into nursing because she might have to log roll a 200 pound patient by herself?

What a crock of shit.

Yes, *of course*, a significant chunk of the disparity in wages per capita comes from legitimate discrimination on grounds of things that correlate with sex. That's why the slogan is "equal pay for equal work", not "equal pay".

But tests where you take two identical resumes, put a male and a female name on them, and send them to a selection of employers looking for work, still show that a non-trivial fraction of that gap comes from discrimination on grounds of sex itself, not of things that correlate with it.
