http://www.cnn.com/2014/04/23/justice/massachusetts-homeless-man-beating/index.html?hpt=hp_t2- Two college football players were arraigned in Massachusetts Superior Court on Wednesday for allegedly kicking and beating a homeless man until a passerby shielded the victim's body with her own, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said
Craig "C.J." Parsons, 22, and Anthony Varrichione, 23, were charged with aggravated assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Additionally, Parsons was charged with "with violating the state's witness intimidation statute in an attempt to stymie the investigation," the District Attorney's Office said.
Parsons is a senior football player at Boston College, and Varrichione, a former quarterback, recently graduated from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Both men pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday, a spokesman for the District Attorney's Office said.
The incident occurred early January 26. The unidentified victim, 50, is a homeless man who was panhandling in Boston's Allston neighborhood. After an argument between him and the other two men, Parsons and Varrichione allegedly punched and kicked him. Prosecutors say Parsons also knocked the man's head into the sidewalk, rendering him unconscious.
A female passerby saw part of the attack and ran to the victim's aid, using her body to shield him from the attackers. Other witnesses called 911, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. The man is expected to survive but has no memory of the attack, prosecutors say.

Varrichione is listed as having a height of 6 feet, 4 inches and a weight of 225 pounds on the Marist College Athletics website. Parsons played tight end for the Boston College Eagles and is listed as being 6 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing 253 pounds on the Boston College Athletics website.

(53,661 posts)I've had to deal with this IRL with poultry and people. The link just an example. They can't be talked out of it in most situations, one poster there did suceed in getting one to stop, by putting the bully with larger chickens who didn't allow the behavior and learned.
Guess that prison would be the same thing for these two sociopaths, but I doubt they will be punished. Since we don't 'cull' bullies from the human race, obviously the way some suggested in that thread. And from that thread on poultry, we see that bullies inspire others to kill at times on a scale that exceeds any attempts to calm it down.
This is a misuse of physical and social advantage, and not what a person with a conscience would do. What good are these guys to the world? Who have the done this or other things to before, and what will do they do when they get away with this. And they likely will since Christie and others are so popular. This nation has been coarsened beyond belief, and for no good reason.
Depressing to see people act this way, it's not like the football players didn't have other places to be, no one was confining them with the homeless man.
The woman did what this woman did, the right thing. Just to lift the readers up, since the human heart can be wonderful:

(15,882 posts)(as compared to 33% for the city of Boston as a whole), an indication of the strong student and "twenty-something" presence. That presence has created tension between some long-time residents and the student population, which constantly cycles in and out as students matriculate and graduate from Boston's many colleges and universities. In addition to nightly dancing and live music at area bars, house parties abound on surrounding streets, particularly during the school year. This has long been a sore point among other Allston residents.

We need education. Don't need people like them.
Probably don't really need sports anyway, break 'em off and let 'em go on their merry way. Too much trouble.

(28,581 posts)Horrible that these two young men could inflict such cruelty on someone who has nothing and wonderful that a young woman was brave enough to risk herself for another human being.
