General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI attended a Condoleeza Rice speech tonight and I made sure to dress for the occassion
Tonight I went to attend a speech on the civil rights struggle in America, ironically that speech was delivered by a woman who is directly responsible for some of the worst civil rights abuses in American history. Condoleeza Rice was paid $150,000 to give a short speech pretending that she was a civil rights leader so a few friends and I decided that we needed to have people in the crowd to remind people of the civil rights violations that Condoleeza and the Bush Administration are responsible for.
That is why we decided to attend Condoleeza's speech wearing orange jumpsuits and black hoods. There was no photography allowed in the auditorium, but we managed to sneak in an opportunity to snap a somewhat blurry picture.
I thought I would probably be kicked out of the auditorium before I even made it to my seat, but security gave us a brief warning at the door that they would not tolerate disruptions and then let us move towards our seat. We did get stopped by another security officer who said we could not wear our hoods because of post 9/11 security policies and they told us if we covered our face we would get kicked out. We removed our hoods until we made it to our seats, but then we put them back on and security did not ever confront us about it again.
When Condoleeza Rice took the stage we stood up and turned our backs to her while others were applauding, we then sat down to listen to her try to pretend she is a liberal. While she did open up her speech with a major lie in which she claimed the 9/11 hijackers were from Afghanistan when in reality they were actually from Saudi Arabia, I shook my head in disgust. She quickly moved away from foreign policy however, in fact I don't think the word "Iraq" even escaped her lips, no instead she spoke about civil rights and education. She talked about growing up as a black girl in the South and addressed the issue of racism. There was actually not much to disagree with her on in this area, she was saying some things that actually sounded fairly progressive and if people did not know her real record they probably would have been very moved by her speech.
She did not talk about all the children who were killed by the bombs that were dropped on Iraq, she did not talk about the people her administration tortured, she did briefly mention the Black Sites but tried to pretend that she never supported them, she ignored the numerous civil rights violations of the administration she worked for and instead tried to portray herself as a civil rights activist rather than a civil rights violator.
Condi is a very good speaker that can make herself look really well on stage, but she is also a huge fraud that tries to pretend she is a much better person than she actually is. This speech was clearly intended to make her look a lot more moderate, it convinced me that she wants to seek political office in the future because she was clearly making an effort to move towards the center and even reach out to liberals. She is a very dangerous person and I hope that if she does run for office people remember her real record, she is no civil rights leader, she is a war criminal.

(5,082 posts)Because she refused to testify under oath about 911 and lied that they couldn't envision planes being used as bombs. CNN reported in 2000 that the US requested anti-aircraft artillery around the entire island of Genoa for the G8 meeting fearing planes being used as kamikaze weapons to kill leaders. I remember hearing the report myself but it is conveniently scrubbed from the collective memory due to lying criminals like Condi Rice. Horrid indeed.

the people in the audience shouting at this brave person are pretty disgusting themselves. Future lawyers huh? Well it figures. Most sell their souls for money, power and status everyday. Not all mind you, but most. Bravo to this woman who spoke up against dr.Rice.! Bravo!

(18,124 posts)the woman referenced that this speech venue was an audience of future lawyers. All the people shouting at this woman to "get the hell out", "shut the hell up", "get out", are, I presume, future lawyers and republicans. The video is a perfect example of what these future lawyers are going to be..... That's WTF! No sarcasm. The woman speaking up against dr. Rice is brave, the people shouting at her are not. Small d intended by me and not retracted.

(10,495 posts)I would hazard a guess that I have known a few more lawyers than you. You probably think all blacks are lazy, Asians are bad drivers... Are there bad lawyers, sure. Are there bad doctors, plumbers, accountants, carpenters.... We are people too (contrary to what individuals like yourself believe)!
I despise Bush & Co., and do believe his inner circle should be tried for war crimes, including Rice, but don't go lumping "most" lawyers in that group, you don't know what you are talking about!
heaven05
(18,124 posts)YOU DID, lawyer. Well as far as lawyers being people also, some are or some end up in Bushco. My personal experience with lawyers is negative. Lawyers are money grubbing snakes, for the most part, and will sell their soul for the right price.
Dustlawyer
(10,495 posts)all of the blacks... So you had some bad experiences with a few lawyers and so it's fair to equate them to most lawyers. I am here to tell you it is not fair. I am sorry that you had a bad experience, but that doesn't make it right to denigrate us all. For all you know, that brave woman who stood up and called Rice a War Criminal was a student at that law school. Knowing law students like I do, Rice's appearance had to be very controversial among the students, probably breaking along Party lines, just like the rest of America!
heaven05
(18,124 posts)you are correct. I still like that woman that spoke up against dr. Rice. If she becomes a lawyer I have some faith she will have integrity. That she will be a firebrand for some humane cause. I shouldn't generalize. Going through a recent spate of court appearances concerning my now lost home of 20 years because of a spate of bad luck brought on by being forced to retire at reduced income and other exigencies, kind of left me with a jaundiced view of lawyers and bankers. I am sorry if I came off ignorant and if I offended you. You just might be a good person.

First, for the March 23 2005 explosion at their plant in Texas City, Texas, and for the last 4 years since April 20 2010. I work hard for my clients and my heart goes out to them. It is hard to receive justice in America when a huge foreign corporation starts spreading their money and influence around. While I have run across my share of bad attorneys, I have also know a lot of them who volunteer and do a large amount of pro bono work. I really enjoy doing volunteer medications and representing police officers pro bono. I have seen my share of good and bad cops too, we are all human. I wish you better luck in the future!

(62,325 posts)not allow the War Criminals, Condi being one of them, to go out in public without being reminded of their crimes and without informing others who may not know, what they have done.
I cannot believe she has the nerve to speak about Civil Rights, I guess that shows the depths of their depravity, the sheer gall they have which is I suppose what makes them what they are.
I will continue to hope that one day all of them will finally be held accountable for their crimes against humanity.
Just one question, did anyone ask her any questions?
Bjorn Against
(12,041 posts)The most hard hitting question she was asked was "What was your biggest accomplishment as Secretary of State and what is the one thing you would have done differently?" After she answered the question and there was no applause the moderator said "If I were in the audience I would be applauding right now." It was a pretty shameful site to behold, but not at all surprising. People like Condi never want to be asked the tough questions so they make sure the only people who are able to ask questions will throw softballs.

(62,325 posts)her fee, but just read it in the link someone provided here. I was glad to see that there were objections to her being invited, to speak about Civil Rights of all things.
I wonder if she's planning to try to run for office, VP maybe on the Repub ticket? Sad as it is to say, she would probably be supported by many on the right.
So thankful for people like you and your friends who won't let her or the public forget what they did. You truly deserve gratitude and huge kudos for going there.

(12,041 posts)I could see her getting picked too if the Republicans can get past having a pro-choice unmarried black woman on their ticket, she is very smooth and her speech tonight was the type of all American story that would sell well to a lot of voters. This is what makes Condi so dangerous, she is very smart and she knows how to manipulate people.

If that decision is overturned, then ALL of these cases will be back. So every week, several of our group have hearings and conferences, plodding through the process, while the judges try to figure out how to stop the insanity. It's at least 200, and I think still close to 300 cases still open.
On the plus side, we've just won a decision about discovery, so let the depositions of the Department of Administration roll! One of the Capitol Police officers was deposed last week, and more will be coming.

(12,041 posts)She did tell at least a couple bald faced lies when she said the 9/11 hijackers were from Afghanistan and her claim that she opposed black sites was also untrue.
