The Republican Lt. Governor of Florida was sent to one of Democrat Charlie Crists campaign events in order to disrupt things and get the attention off of the former governor, but Crist turned the tables and wouldnt let the Republicans hijack his event.
Video at link~
Rick Scotts Lt. Governor Carlos Lopez-Cantera was speaking to the media at Democratic candidate Charlie Crists event, when Crist walked up and took over the conversation.
Transcript from The Miami Herald:
At that point, Crist appeared in the background, and offered his handshake to Lopez-Cantera.
Crist: Good to see you.
Lopez-Cantera: Hey. How are you?
Crist: Doing well. Say hi to your family for me.
Reporter: Governor, he says youve told lies about Gov. Scott
Crist: Hes got to debate the lieutenant governor candidate.
Give me Scott.
Lopez-Cantera aide: Last question.
Republican Gov. Rick Scott is in danger of not being reelected, because his opponent Charlie Crist knows all of the angles. He knows the GOPs manipulations and dirty tricks, because he used to be a Republican. Crist isnt going to stand off to the side, and let the Scott campaign pull the rug out from under him.
Crist was so smooth, and his appearance was so unexpected, that Lopez-Cantera was left speechless. Just like that, a Republican dirty trick was derailed, and Charlie Crist took back all of the headlines, by being a nice guy and greeting the Lt. Governor.
The way Crist walked away and demanded that Rick Scott be brought to him was the ultimate psyche out move. In his quest to be reelected to a second term, Rick Scott has 99 problems, and Charlie Crist is his biggest one.

(16,916 posts)Christ is the next Governor of Florida. It almost seemed scripted...and wouldn't THAT blow your mind if it were true?

(12,448 posts)Crist handled it beautifully. Many Republicans can't be embarrassed because they have no shame or morals, but we can certainly try!
"Give me Scott" indeed!

(88,117 posts)Scott plans to use 25 million against Crist. He's going to try to totally buy the election.

(254 posts)he bought it the last time.
I am not all that warm & fuzzy for Good Time Charlie, but ye gods, Rick Scott is the freaking antichrist.
Even when he was an "R", Crist was pretty moderate...push comes to shove, guess I'll have to stump for Charlie.
Ouch.

(8,964 posts)I would bet that Lopez-Cantera will not be hanging around the media at Crist events any time soon.

(1,554 posts)Are they truly now liberals since "they've seen the light", or simply right of center folk who can't move "that far right" that will actually drag the Dems further right.
I know that he is better than Scott, but is he truly one of us?
And if he is not one of us, what does that say about our party? Can we not put up a true progressive and win?
Maybe Crist is different. Please inform me.

(1,668 posts)But nor are half the democrats currently holding elected office.
Crist is a good candidate for Florida though. At the very least he won't block Obamacare. He's well liked and can win.
I agree with your sentiments, but I think it has to be taken on a case by case basis. I especially hate it when democrats compromise in a race they aren't going to win anyway.
But I also dislike winning with wolves in sheep's clothing like Harold Ford Jr. I would not put Crist into this category though.

(1,554 posts)I am aware that Scott needs to go, and welcome Crist to do that.

(3,596 posts)I was never a big fan of Morning Joe but he is a frequent there. He is no more a Democrat or a Progressive than Michael Savage. He is one to run away from if you see him coming down the street because it is going to stink. This has nothing to do with his race. It has to do with him being a smooth-talking opportunist who is absolutely devoid of any principles.

(15,574 posts)So yes, some people could switch parties and not be liberal. Our President is a Democrat but I'd hardly call him a liberal............

(37,428 posts)Crist is a politician who wants to win. I believe that there is little he wouldn't do or say to make that happen, and that his only allegiances are to himself and to his class.

(1,855 posts)All of these republicans running as Dems can only pull our Party farther to the right.
Crist is at least a moderate, however, and far from a tea bagging republican. As fed up as I am with voting for the lesser of two evils, with Rick Scott on the other end of the equation, we cannot afford a Crist loss.

(23,099 posts)I'd vote for a gerbil if she was running against Scott. Crist isn't a progressive, but he's not a mad hatter criminal destroyer of our economy like Scott is.
I would add that Crist is unlikely to be a "criminal destroyer of our environment" like the current thug-governor has been.

(1,554 posts)But if we have to move back left in baby steps, then I'll go along for the ride. My own state of Michigan is so screwed up right now thanks in part to the 2010 midterms going so wrong and the redistricting that went along with it. We need Schauer to beat Snyder and to take back at least one of the state houses this time. Tall order for both, but I think Schauer has a good chance, or at least I hope.

(69,014 posts)You mean when Obama's loyal disciples had a mass hissyfit because he was NOT the Messiah and stayed home?
2010 when we screwed our country and ourselves because we wanted nothing but PERFECT?
I still haven't reached forgiveness.

(1,554 posts)You described it well. I was upset, but wasn't so crazy as to stay home. Those who did for very immature reasons, did indeed screw us over for a long time forward. The DNC also did a very poor job in the wake of the teabagger movement, perhaps resting on their laurels from the '08 victories. Either way, Michigan is super screwed at the moment.

(14,337 posts)I always said to myself, why is this man a Republican? I've been married to a Republican man for 40 years. Crist's views were so in opposition to my husband's (as mine are). How many times did he veto bills from the Republican controlled legislature? So many times the Tea Baggers would pass their extreme legislation, and I would just say, well, Charlie ain't going to go for that one. No, he didn't. When he switched to an Independent, it didn't surprise me at all. Hold that against him? No, because I myself was an Independent for decades before becoming a Democrat. Why belong to a Party, or no Party, when you don't agree with them?
While Crist may not be the most progressive Democrat around, he is a hell of a lot better, and has a record of showing it, than the Tea Baggers and Governor Fraud in this state.
