Mississippi GOP chairman is being stalked by Tea Party

And today a Tea Party leader within the state called for Joe Nosef to resign[/link] as chairman.

The senate race just keeps getting nastier and nastier. Nosef's twitter account[/link] gives some idea of the never-ending harassment that he is getting from RWNJ. Thad Cochran is a stereotypical Southern gentleman who is widely liked in the state. He probably would have stepped down from the Senate seat if it weren't for Tea Party candidate Chris McDaniel who announced his candidacy back in November.

Audio clips from McDaniel's talk radio show provide lots of material for the Cochran campaign. Here is the famous boobie clip[/link] in which he plays on ignorant listeners confusion between "liberalism" and "libertarianism". He obviously has aspirations to campaign against Rand Paul someday.

Chris McDaniel is currently lagging in polls but anything is possible at this point. The fact that Travis Childers is running on the Democratic ticket is significant. There is speculation that the former House member from north Mississippi would not have entered the race if he thought that Thad would win the primary. Even if Cochran survives the challenge from McDaniel, damage to the GOP brand in Mississippi may be enough to scare moderates into voting against the 36 year incumbent.

There are two different strategies for Dems. They can vote for Cochran and keep McDaniel and the teabaggers from winning, or they can vote for McDaniel in hopes that Childers will beat him in the general. I'll be voting for Cochran myself. I think the risk is too high that McDaniel will win in the general if he wins the GOP nomination.

Another interesting race in the GOP primary is for the 4th District Congressman. The former Blue Dog Gene Taylor has switched parties and is running against teabagger Steven Palazzo, who unseated 10-term incumbent Taylor in 2010. I'll be voting for Taylor in hopes that he will probably be more moderate than Palazzo. Regardless of the outcome of the GOP races, I'll be voting for the Democratic challengers in the general. However, I want to get the most moderate Republicans possible in the race because Democrats haven't been doing well at all in Miss. for quite some time.

The House race on the coast is interesting. Steven Palazzo comes across as an ass. He is a Tea Party wannabe. Does Gene Taylor have any chance to re-gain that seat?

In fact, I've been told by some people I know who are active in the Republican Party that Taylor was asked to run by some of them. A lot of people are dissatisfied with Palazzo. When he voted against some of the Sandy relief for the Northeast, he really pissed off a lot of people down here. We couldn't have made it without all the federal relief after Katrina, and people were ashamed that our own representative voted against hurricane relief for others. Palazzo never talks about anything positive that he can do; he just bitches and complains about Obama all the time. I'm hoping like hell that Taylor can win, and if enough Democrats vote in the GOP primary this time, he will win.
