BAM!- Another Republican Goes Down as Rick Perry Is The FOCUS Of A CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION

......................

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has lawyered up as the criminal investigation into whether he illegally withheld money from a district attorney’s office is gaining steam.

According to the American-Statesman:

Gov. Rick Perry has retained a high-profile Austin defense lawyer to represent him in a criminal investigation into whether he illegally withheld money from the Travis County district attorney’s office, the American-Statesman and KVUE-TV confirmed Sunday.

The hiring of David L. Botsford is the latest signal that the inquiry into Perry’s conduct might be gaining momentum after a seven-month investigation.

http://www.statesman.com/news/news/state-regional-govt-politics/rick-perry-hires-austin-lawyer-for-criminal-inquir/nfY8w/

If this case reminds you of another Republican governor who wants to run for president, but is trapped in his own web of self created scandals, it should. Perry got himself into hot water by threating to withhold $7.5 million in funding unless the Democratic Travis County DA resigned. Perry wanted her to resign after she was convicted of a DWI. The Democrat promised not to run for reelection, but refused to resign. Perry’s actions put a cloud of uncertainty over hundreds of criminal investigations and were illegal. The governor can’t withhold funding in order to pressure another elected official to resign. The matter of the DA and her DWI is an issue between her and the voters.

Gov. Perry’s actions are very similar to what Chris Christie is being accused of doing in New Jersey. Christie is accused of withholding Sandy aid, unless political favors were granted to his campaign donors. Both Christie and Perry have White House dreams in 2016, and both may be undone by their own criminal abuses of power.

All you inside the MSNBC/blue state bubble will be sorely disappointed. Republicans control everything and the kitchen sink in Texas, and they are never going to be held accountable for anything in that hopeless state.

Reminds me of DU during the 2000's: "Oh boy this is it! Bush is toast now! This has legs"

Did Tom DeLay ever see the inside of a prison cell?

There you go.

he and a snowball have the same chances in hell.

living here in Austin, I'm front row witness to the daily corruption that goes on in this state. I can't say this enough, nothing is going to happen.

the very well entrenched good old boys network will take care of that. the repuke strangle hold on this state is epic and when I say epic, I mean colossally corrupt.

influence peddling has been going on here since george w. monkeypants* was gov.

cement head perry makes the repukes a lot of illegal money. that's not going to be allowed to stop by this. in fact it will probably help him.

Rove wasn't indicted because he is the one who gave Libby up to Patrick Fitzgerald. He told the truth to the grand jury and they had nothing to indict him on. That whole operation was run out of Cheney's office and that is why Cheney got so pissed when Bush didn't pardon Libby on his way out the door. I also think that Libby refused to admit that he had committed a crime so the President couldn't pardon him. Not defending Bush here at all but you have to admit to the crime in order to even be considered for a Presidential Pardon.

The original jail term was dismissed because the money he laundered was a check and checks aren't technically money according to the original appeals judge. Really! The judge said that! Anyway that decision has a good chance of being overturned and he may see jail time yet. One can hope.

for that very big open secret about Perry to hit the M$M. It has been out in the Austin area for a long time but it hasn't made national. I figured that is why he pulled his campaign last cycle. He would not have won last time if there had not been so many running for his office to split the vote.

GOP have never realized that just because you are in the 'privacy' of your car, doesn't mean we can't see through the car window.

I think Windy will mop the floor with the GOP candidate. Texas women are ticked.

Texas Dems warned about Dubya and Rove, went all the way to the SCOTUS over DeLay and the under handed redistricting-and lost, and endured these many years of pRick Perry. When DeLay was at his weakest and the National Dem could have stepped in and unseated him by some well placed funding, they chose to ignore the locals. The fact that there are still Dems that are kicking and screaming says a lot about our toughness. The only national Dem leader that believed in us was Howard Dean.

These days, I focus on local elections like school boards, State Senate and Reps, Governor, and Lieutenant Governor. The Nationals are a bunch of nincompoops.

Ive seen a LOT of critics of Hillary here on DU, but by and large even those who dont want her say they'll vote for her if she is the nominee. The right is not like that. A LOT of them didnt vote for Romney and they wont vote for Bush. Then they'll blame the loss, like last time, on not having a "true conservative" candidate. Even though I cant seem to find anyone who can explain how having a MORE conservative candidate would've taken away votes from Obama.

From my view Governor Perry has the same persona as George W. Bush. We know the Bush family has been business partners with the Bin Laden family for decades but covered up by the charades in media rhetoric.

It’s clear the Bin Laden’s financed Al Qaeda all through Iraq and Afghanistan wars, which needs never ending shame if Bush is not jailed. Rick Perry in the same world disorder should be publicly condemned, as poisoning all political and business family associations. They both, Bush and Perry metastasized that pathology in medical terms, leads to a deviation from a healthy a society.

Now Governor Perry is flickering like a June bug. Showing the public neurotic mental state besides his personal hatred for implementing Health Care is as insane as the Arab wars that America peroxided to unknown amounts of illegal profiteering through the Gulf areas. Estimates are in the billions trafficked war materials through Texas during these wars all under the media veil.

After understanding the politics in Texas which often ignores the National Constitution many figure Texas doesn’t have to vote for secession, they should be thrown out of the Union.

Don't get too excited about the prospect of Perry going down -- he is a Republican. Republicans are often forgiven by their constituents and by their party for their misdeeds.
Never mind that he is a dim-wit who should never have made it to elected office, but there he is nonetheless.

Same with Chris Christie -- what they do may be unethical, even illegal, but that doesn't mean they're going down.

Those kinds of repercussions happen more often to Democrats who are guilty of malfeasance -- Republicans defend their own, loudly and often successfully.
