An 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Chile, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

CNN Breaking News Email: "An 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Chile, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A tsunami warning was issued for Chile, Peru and Ecuador. The quake was centered some 50 miles west-northwest of Iquique at a depth of 6.2 miles."

per the BBC. Supposedly the tsunami will be 2 meters or less on the coastline nearest the epicenter. Probably not much information on damage and casualties until tomorrow after dawn.
