Sunday is Cat day so tell me about your kitties!!

I will start.............

This is L.C. short for laser cat cuz she loved chasing that red dot when i first found. She is about 13 now. She likes going downstairs about 2 in the morning and howling as loud as she can for no reason. She has long hair and i am forever trying to get the clumps out of it. Her spot on the bed is either side of the pillow up by my head. She doesnt like people she hisses at them but gives me kisses.

This is Peekaboo. I call him my fatty boy. He just weighed in at 13 pounds. 10 years old, the baby of the bunch. The neighbors found three kittens in their shed with no mama cat anywhere to be found. They asked us if we could take them otherwise they were going to try to sell them for bait for a snake or something. My mom and I said O HELL NO so we took the kitties, kept him and gave away the other two. He got his pee pee blocked a few years back from too much dry food probably and had to get unblocked. Thank god the local vet had late hours, they said if i had waited maybe a few more hours to get him unblocked he probably would have died. I was going to wait till the next day to call but something in my head told me i better call now, i smack myself every time i think about it now how i even had that thought even for a second to wait. If your cat starts acting any differently then you know it normally does, DONT WAIT!!, make that call just for your own peace of mind. I've never had an orange cat before and he is the friendliest lovingist (is that a word? lol) cat. His spot on the bed is under the covers snuggled up by my underarm.

This is Juniors. Strangely enough she is a she kitty but she looked so much like her crazy mom cat that I didnt know what else to call her. Clone kitty? Duplicate kitty? So i went with Juniors lol. Human boys are Jr if they have the same name as their dad, what about girls? Do they have any kind of title? Seriously curious because i just dont know. She is 12 years old now the middle cat. Juniors is my hunter cat. She used to bring in all kinds of strange things from outside. When i throw a ball down the steps she goes and fetches it and brings it back, no shit. Just like a dog. She is mellow never had any medical issues. I can put her up on my shoulder and walk around and she loves sitting up there. She likes to jump up on the counter and up on top of the fridge when we are in the kitchen. Her spot on the bed is me. She either lays on my stomach or on my leg. She will lay there until i start getting antsy and need to adjust. Soon as i find my new position she is right back up there.

So those are my kitties.

Would love to read about yours! 8-)

6. It would take me all day to muster them up,
Sun Mar 30, 2014, 10:06 AM
Mar 2014

take pictures and post them but here's the list in order of age with the oldest first:

Ghostie: 11 years old. So named because you can be 6 inches away from her and if she doesn't want to be seen you'll never see her. Came to us as a starving kitten along with her starving sister and mother who used to steal her food. VERY wary at first, feral as can be. Took us forever to be able to touch her but now she's a snuggle bunny. She also never got out of catlet stage into full-grown cat status so she's MAYBE 5 pounds soaking wet.

Henry: Son of Shasta who wandered into our family room, jumped up on the futon and went sound asleep. We found out later that she was already pregnant and Henry is one of the three kittens she had. When Dutchess showed up, also pregnant and had her kittens, she bailed and found another home. Henry is our big boy. Easily 15 lbs. Big baby and also a snuggle bunny. Henry is 8. Born behind the server in the office.

Xena Warrior Princess: Daughter of Shasta. She was the most active as a kitten and very daring. She's 2nd to lowest on the kittie pride totem pole so she hangs out in the tree house (actually just a board in the bottlebrush tree). Also 8. VERY vocal and chatters constantly when you talk to her. Also 8 and born behind the server.

Erica, originally named "Eric" (until we figured out he was a she). She was less than 24 hours old, couldn't see, couldn't hear and couldn't walk but I came into the office to check on the newborns and she was like 5 feet from the birthing box, just scootin' along, thus, Erica the Viking. Also 8 and born behind the server.

Loki: We call her loco Loki for a reason as she hisses at inanimate objects for no apparent reason. The Espoused One nicknamed her "Her Darkness." She's all black. Found her across the street when she was about 5 weeks old and not weaned yet. Husband swears mama kittie kicked her out of the litter because she ain't right. Other cats give her a wide berth but she can (when she wants to) be sweet and loving and when she's done being petting, she'll attempt to remove one of your body parts. She's 5

Dutchess: Queen of the kitties. I found Dutchess in the parking lot of the Census office. It was obvious someone had dumped her as she was scared but trying to find someone who would take her. I saw her, opened up the door to my truck, patted the seat and up she went. Dutchess was also preggars (though we didn't know it at the time). She had two kittens and both went to the same loving home. Dutchess is also 5 and a BIG hairy girl. She lives on the roof and surveys all she sees.

Alaska. Newest baby. We were having Thanksgiving dinner and see this little white furball stuffing herself on the big cat's cat food (telling me she was starving). Feral so I couldn't catch her and she hung out in the back yard for a couple of days. I was watching her through my studio window when I noticed Erica came up to her, touched noses and she proceeded to attach herself to Erica. At that, I thought, "hmmmm." Opened the sliding glass door, called Erica and Little Shit (nickname) followed right behind. She's the most beautiful cat I ever had, all white, with a grey "skid mark" on her head with one blue eye and one green eye. We just got her spayed a couple of weeks ago. We figure she was born sometime in September 2013. She follows Erica around everywhere she goes. They're BFF's.

So, that's our Pride. All 7 of them and yes, I am the crazy cat lady.

they find me, I don't actually go out and look for them. Everyone's spayed/neutered, has their shots, and even though 5 of the 7 are outside cats (they live in various parts of our covered patio), they're all loved, well cared for and they don't wander. Now, as for the people who don't spay/neuter their animals, I have a whole other series of words for them and none of them nice.

35. "Crazy Cat Lady"
Sun Mar 30, 2014, 01:42 PM
Mar 2014

Some years back, a cute little girl of about 6 rang my doorbell. She lived a couple blocks away and I hadn't seen her before.

Anyway, her kitty had gone missing. They had searched everywhere with no luck. Had I seen her? When I answered no, a look of disappointment came over her face.

And then, she said it...

"Mom told me that if anyone had found her, it would be that Crazy Cat Lady down the street."

It was all I could do to keep a straight face after hearing that. I loved that a little child just blurted out what the whole neighborhood most likely thought.

For the record, at the time I was taking care of 9 cats. With the exception of one, all were either strays or had been dumped off in my fenced-in back yard. I cannot watch an animal go hungry. (All were eventually spayed/neutered.) So, I guess I qualified for the title.

Two hours later, another knock on the door came to let me know that their kitty had been hiding in a drawer the whole time.

is Butters. I acquired him through my daughter. People were always dumping their pets at the sheriffs office where she worked. Butters is a bit on the anti social side when it comes to his peers. So he wasn't doing well in a multi-animal home.
Butters is a 20 pound tabby. The vet believes he might be part maine coon. He has what I call a Mike Tyson meow. Big boy, teeny voice!

He is most definitely a ( I am the universe, and all else revolves around me.) Type of cat. There is never a dull moment with him around! It's like having a bull headed three year old toddler! My boyfriend lets him get away with more bad behavior than I would allow. It's not unusual to go into his office and find him sitting on the floor with paperwork scattered around him, and Butters ensconced in his chair!

Life with Butters is and ! And we wouldn't have it any other way.

'White boy cat' and 'calico girl cat' who live in the house, we have black and white, orange, and tiger boy cats and mamma kitty who live outside. We are not very creative with names. It started because there is a revolving door of feral cats on the farm. ..don't want to get too attached.

White boy cat was abandoned by its mother along with 3 others. One morning all were gone but him. He was wild so we lured him into the house. We couldn't find him for a day or two. .About a week later he decided we were ok. He still isn't super friendly but he usually doesn't hide from us.

The orange one is Lily. She's a podgy flump who spends her life snoozing and being petted. She's extremely lazy. We got her a "da burd" toy to try and get her to lose weight but she just grabs the spinner and sits on it. The black one is Cracker. She's a yowly ball of energy that races around, yowling constantly and always wants fusses. She constantly pushes Lily out of the way to get to her food bowl and Lily is so sweet and gentle that she just sits there and waits for Cracker to finish. Lily has taken to mothering Cracker and the two of them will clean each other and snuggle together.

Yep, and it is in my own backyard! After the deaths of the late OK and Flame, Miss Julie fashioned herself up a fine den out in the backyard and you cannot see her at all in it! It is an elaborate construction I must say!

I adopted two kittens about 7 mos. ago and they are now 9 mos. old and one of them weighs in at ... almost 15 lbs. already! Yikes!

The other "kitten", his brother is a smaller version of the 15 pounder but I wonder how big he will get? Some cats grow for years (as was the case of the late Flame).

I love my kitties, I love them more that anything else I have in this life!

Thanks for your thread and if I get new pictures, I will post them (and the elaborate cat den too!).

& recommend for you and your fine kitties!

Have you mentioned LC's night howling to the vet? Sometimes there's an underlying medical reason for it (and sometimes there isn't.)

Spookie is a small, long-haired tortoiseshell, about to turn nine years old. She's calmed a bit from her hair-on-fire kitten days, but is still very much up for a game of "catch the stritchy ball" and suchlike. While not a lap kitty, she's is quite bonded and affectionate, usually stationing herself very near (unless its sit-in-the-sunny-window time). Her coat is insanely soft, more like a bunny.

I didn't know about that when my little guy had it but luckily my cousin did and I got him to the all-night emergency vet in time. He's on the C/D prescription food now for life.

His name is Chance. He was found in the woods with his dead mother, one dead sibling, and one other sibling still clinging to life. The vet estimated he was about 2 weeks old.

He was dehydrated, malnourished, anemic, suffering from hypothermia, and infested with worms, fleas, and I don't know what all. She worked at an animal hospital and took him to work with her every day for about three weeks.

His sister was stronger and was up and about and eating baby food almost immediately but he couldn't get the hang of eating. The vet said he really wasn't sure this little guy had a much of a chance. I started fostering him 'cause my cousin needed sleep and his bottle feedings were getting to her.

That was just over 12 years ago and I wish I knew how to post pictures here 'cause I think he's a very handsome boy. He loves being on my shoulders and sometimes leaps across the room 'cause he suddenly, without warning, simply has to be on Mom's shoulders. He seems pretty sure that everyone on earth was put here to be his friend.

39. There are four kitties in our house.
Sun Mar 30, 2014, 07:27 PM
Mar 2014

Lewis, Clark and Cat Zilla are brothers, born in our house almost 11 years ago. Lewis and Zilla are grey with subtle tabby and pretty bellies. Large boys too. Lewis is over 13 inches just from his shoulder to his hip. Clark also is large. He is jet black even to his whiskers. When he was younger his toenails were black.

The new kid in town is Junior. His mother is a feral who showed up on our patio last summer very thin and hungry. Very afraid. However she has gotten used to us enough that she stays on the porch while we fix her food etc. She had kittens in July and brought them to our porch when they were beginning to move about. There were 4. Two have disappeared, one was hit by a car and I have Junior. He is a black and gray tabby with some tan under coating. When I caught him one cold night before Thanksgiving, I locked him in the bathroom with a bed, food, box and water and a ceiling heater. Went in after a while to sit with him and he crawled up in my lap and started to purr. This cat previously had never let any of us within two feet of him. So he now has the run of the house and has learned to co exist well with his 'uncles'. He is hilarious. Fierce defender of our house against the Evil Toilet Paper Monster, he has killed several rolls with great enthusisam. He loves to cuddle and has a great purrbox.

a feral rescue I took in when she was a tiny scrap of a thing that fit in one hand.

At two, she's full grown, healthy, energetic, and loves to tear the place apart, torment the dog, and invent schemes to "escape" into the wild, which is her greatest desire. She was born out there, but is not allowed out. There are simply too many predators eager for unwary cats in my neighborhood. Coyotes, owls, hawks, and even the two golden eagles perched in my trees a few weeks back.

As long as she's the center of attention, she's content. Today she groomed the dog, spent some time napping in my lap, making sure she displaced my book to do so, and played hide and seek with gleeful abandon when I was changing the bedding. Right now she's sitting in the window, staring out at the yard and wishing she were there.

Braveheart and Wicca are brother and sister. They are almost 14 people years old. Both are fixed. Braveheart is gray and white, Wicca is coal black. Both have urinary tract difficulties and need medicine and special food. Braveheart also has borderline high blood pressure and hyperthyroid. Unfortunately he has reactions to methimazole, the medicine for hyperthyroidism.

Bowtie is a neutered male Siamese. He is about 8 1/2 people years. He is overweight and gets diet cat food. He snuggles and snoozes with Braveheart, and they groom each other. He does not get along with Wicca, he chases her and she snaps at him.

We have had at least one cat living with us for at least 23 years. Usually we have two or more. I have had cats most of my life.
