Penguin prostitution

I heard about this from a friend last night and had to look it up. Apparently a lack of nest building resources has led some female penguins to "turn tricks" for stones. Scientists are saying that this is the first instance of 'prostitution' in the animal kingdom.

In addition to being fascinating, the joke potential here is huge.
Have fun

There's gotta be a way to incorporate the whole " all penguins look alike to me" thing too.

I spotted this early in the morning and expected a lively little thread to have grown by the time I returned in the evening.

I was sure I was going to come back to multiple lectures on penguin trafficking.

I expected to hear all about penguin abuse, the traumatic encounters as chicks with older male penguins that left them so stupid they can't choose what they want for dinner, never mind when to mate.

I anticipated hotly debated subthreads on the need to rescue these oppressed, abused penguins (yes, indeed, at this very moment those stupid, traumatized, trafficked penguins are being rounded up, locked in cages, tagged as deviant, and released after a few months into an area filled with predators until the dumb bitc-sex pozis see the error of their ways. It's for their own good. Really.)

I expected Ashton Kutcher's moronic face, at the very least.

My heart is broken. GD has failed me and I don't know how I shall ever recover.

Although it does give one pause as to what is exactly going on with those "Happy Feet" movies.

I'm probably going to get flamed for my title.

Btw, LadyHawkAZ, I do appreciate your input, seriously. You came to my aid viz a vis another "happy" thread I started a month or so ago.

And I am not perfectly certain that male penguins know that sex is connected to procreation.

don't even think the penguins are doing it for the stones. They're doing it only with single males and they think it might be a way of having a secondary mate waiting in the wings, so to speak, in case something happens to their current mate, since penguins are generally monogamous.

I don't think it's prostitution.

Ok...hopefully I don't have to explain my Rush reference. Frankly I admire the lady penguin who keeps a man on the side..keeping her options open!
