Prepare for some Super Hypocrisy on Defense Budget and Jobs
When it comes to cutting the defense budget, right-wingers magically become Keynesians, analyzing the effect of such cuts on GDP and unemployment.
And you know what? They will be correct. Cutting defense will cost jobs and hinder the economy.
And the reasons that is true is that
1) every dollar of deficit spending is added to GDP and is stimulative, and
2) government created jobs are, in fact, jobs.
Those two facts also apply to food stamps, hiring school teachers and all other government spending and government hiring.
Stimulus works. Government jobs are jobs.
These economic facts of general application that do not apply specially to defense spending and, in fact, apply less to defense spending than to things like food stamps and hiring school teachers.
Putting everyone in the army would be a dumb way to fix unemployment but it would, in fact, fix unemployment. Putting everyone to work doing something more socially useful would be smarter.
