When I first read "THE//INTERCEPT's" new revelations about Government's targeting Wikileaks I was reminded about the early days of Wikileaks when there were quite a few DU'ers linking to the site for the latest document dump and urging donations from those of us who cared about the issues that Wikileaks was exposing. I went to the Wikileaks site from links here on DU a few times and even thought of donating--but never got around to it.
Now it appears that any of us who either donated or participated in Wikileaks document reading could be on the NSA's Active Watch List. Also that DU, Daily KOS or other Websites who had active or passive Wikileaks followers could be flagged as being on the NSA Watchlist for allowing posters on their website to link to Wikileaks. There could be many Democratic Websites whose whole site could be in NSA's Agent Mike's Database just because posters were direct linking to Wikileaks and others were following the links.
WE ARE ALL GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION....comes to mind with these latest revelations.

Top-secret documents from the National Security Agency and its British counterpart,' reports The Intercept on Tuesday, 'reveal for the first time how the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom targeted WikiLeaks and other activist groups with tactics ranging from covert surveillance to prosecution.' (Following new revelations about the manner in which U.S. and U.K. spy agencies targeted the media outlet Wikileaks, the organization on Tuesday has announced its intention to legal action against the NSA and GCHQ in order to challenge what it calls an overt assault on journalism.
As The Intercept's Glenn Greenwald and Ryan Gallagher report, documents made available by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden show "for the first time how the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom targeted WikiLeaks and other activist groups with tactics ranging from covert surveillance to prosecution."
The internal government documents, including slides of presentations given at an annual top secret surveillance conference between the two countries and internal agency correspondence, expose how the government targeted not only Wikileaks and its spirited leader Julian Assange, but also those people all over the worldincluding U.S. and British citizenswho may have accessed or viewed the public website.
As The Intercept reports: "In 2008, not long after WikiLeaks was formed, the U.S. Army prepared a report that identified the organization as an enemy, and plotted how it could be destroyed. The new documents provide a window into how the U.S. and British governments appear to have shared the view that WikiLeaks represented a serious threat, and reveal the controversial measures they were willing to take to combat it."

(84,711 posts)apply to me" crowd. This latest revelation shows that we are "all suspect" because of association in their view. It isn't just about terrorists in foreign countries it's now "suspected terrorists" from within who post on websites and link to articles and information from those who are suspect...like journalists for major newspapers and bloggers who just might be reporting news that the "GOVERNMENT" finds threatening.

(84,711 posts)to know that the "operations" are so vast, multi-country sharing and far more sophisticated than anything Nixon/Hoover were capable of should hopefully wake up some of the naysayers who think these revelations are nothing but Snowden and Greenwald trying to "make a buck."
