Kristol: Hillary is Toast!

...Bill Kristol is skeptical of the former secretary of state's prospects in her party's primary.

Hillary is very likely to be out of step with the Democratic primary electorate in 2016—too close to Wall Street, too establishment, a prominent part of an administration that employed drone strikes and used the NSA in all sorts of dastardly ways. For Democrats in 2016, Hillary Clinton might be too much of a .??.??. Clinton Democrat. She’ll have a tougher nomination fight than everyone now expects.

But even if Clinton somehow manages to triumph over Martin O'Malley, Kristol thinks she's a goner in the general election.

It’s more likely that Hillary goes down in the general election, a representative of the old order losing to a younger, fresher Republican face. Time claims, “One widespread forecast holds that Clinton is poised for a cakewalk of historic proportions.” One would like to see what analysis that forecast is based on, and whether it’s “widespread” among anyone other than Clinton loyalists... Hillary likely won’t run. If she does, she likely won’t win.

Exactly. "Younger and fresher," is what the Republican Party is all about.

And dude is always right, too...

"Barack Obama is not going to beat Hillary Clinton in a single Democratic primary. I’ll predict that right now.” —William Kristol, Fox News Sunday, Dec. 17, 2006

Because I'm anot all that thrilled with Hillary, and Kristol has never been right about anything.

He really needs to get his Kristol ball tuned up.

Let's not forget his fucked up predictions regarding Iraq. If anything, we should take his predictions as actually predicting the opposite of what he says.

Also why does this always-wrong guy still have a job?

I always go see what Bill Kristol has to say. That way, I'll know that exactly the opposite will occur. He's a freaking genius that way.

If the country had adopted Hillary care 1993 there would not have been a rethuglican elected for a generation. It was to good of a deal for the american public. They killed it and now we have the tea party. Things could have been a lot different.

Do the opposite of whatever he thinks is right.

14. I agree that she likely won't win the nomination, but she'd probably beat a Republican.

Years out from 2004, Joe Lieberman was polling as the strongest candidate. Hillary was inevitable for most of 2006-2007. Numbers this far out don't really matter; nobody except political freaks are thinking much about the options 2.5 years before the primary.

The past two (competitive) national primaries have shown that the Democratic base has shifted left over the past 2 decades, while Clinton Democrats are still partying like it's 1999. Look at the Clinton's favorite political strategists: Mark Penn, Dick Morris, Lanny Davis; They practically disqualified themselves in the primary. Obama was the best positioned anti-Hillary candidate, and tried very hard to sound as if he was the less free trade, less pro-war, less corporate-friendly candidate. More than anything else, that carried him over the top.

I don't know any fresh Republican faces that I'm all that worried about. With Christie imploding, their best choices now are Cruz, Rubio, Walker, and Jeb Bush. Cruz is a right wing evangelist at a time when people are increasingly favoring libertarian social policies, even within the Republican Party. Walker is a criminal. Rubio is boring. Worst of all, Jeb Bush is a Bush. We aren't having a third President Bush any time soon - it's just not going to happen.

The year: 2006. The month: December. Democrats were gearing up early for a 2008 presidential primary, with better-than-usual confidence that the winner of the nomination would become president. Barack Obama, the first-term senator from Illinois, had finally confirmed that he was looking at a run. Bill Kristol appeared on Fox News to analyze the situation.

If [Hillary Clinton] gets a race against John Edwards and Barack Obama, she’s going to be the nominee. Gore is the only threat to her, then. … Barack Obama is not going to beat Hillary Clinton in a single Democratic primary. I’ll predict that right now.

It's a little gauche to compare one's predictions with those of a more senior and well-compensated pundit, but for the record: By January 2007 I was saying Obama could beat Clinton.*

Hillary will be the nominee and winner in 2016 according to the anti-oracle Bill Kristol.
