Ted Cruz: Harvey Weinstein’s ‘left-wing propaganda’ will be a box-office bomb

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) joined the group of conservatives protesting Hollywood executive Harvey Weinstein’s plan to make a film slamming the National Rifle Association (NRA), telling Fox News host Greta Van Susteren on Thursday it was sure to bomb at the box office.

“The great thing is, the market will take care of this,” Cruz said. “These left-wing propaganda films that people like Weinstein like to put out, they never sell any tickets.”Cruz did not mention that Weinstein’s companies have distributed several films by documentarian Michael Moore, which collectively have made more than $330 million worldwide, including the highest-grossing documentary ever in Farenheit 9/11.

Weinstein announced the project during an interview on Wednesday with satellite radio host Howard Stern, saying he hated guns and calling the NRA “a disaster area.”

“I’m gonna make a movie with Meryl Streep and we’re gonna take this issue head on,” Weinstein told Stern. “They’re gonna wish they weren’t alive after I’m done with them.”

If you do and you get shot to death, some DU Gun Enthusiasts will claim you got what you deserved. That's not idle talk, there are already posts confirming it.

I hope the NRA movie does well; just the fact that Weinstein has it in the works is great news.

He runs Hollywood. I'm not sure he's ever produced a movie that ever bombed.

Don't you just love this? Cruz is so self absorbed he hasn't a clue about the real world. I guess he probably thinks Santorum's Christmas movie was a blockbuster.

......I'd say that Ted Cruz has the intelligence level of his constituents pegged real well. "Gotta keep them home votes coming in thar, Jetra". The only thing I might have recommended he say differently is leaving out the word propaganda. Using four syllable words is pressing your luck on the comprehension skills of most of the people who have been inclined to vote for him in the past.

...but, instead, some whacked out wing nut taking down moviegoers in "defense" of the Second Amendment.

Edited to add that, when I start feeling this paranoid, it's probably time to go to bed. Night, y'all.

I'm sure going to watch it and make sure I do with a dozen of my closest friends.

I'm sure it will be no live action adaptation of Green Eggs and Ham complete with unintentional irony. But will still be a box office hit.

After his Green Eggs and Ham performance I'm sure he's got Weinstein is worried.

He comes off as one of the most ignorant, self absorbed and egotistical politicians in the RW. It has to be an act, right? No one can be that willfully ignorant...can they?

1. Weinstein has profited from hyper-violent movies involving guns, so this NRA thing should be ignored, due to his hypocrisy.

2. If Weinstein's ancestors had owned guns and used them against the Nazis in WWII, they would have been better off.

Look for a full-scale plunge from the usual blame-the-victim stuff into rampant Anti-Semitism on the more radical right-wing sites pretty soon. Fox is obviously scrubbing its comments section this morning, but that won't last.

To Republicans it will always be unsuccessful and wrong. They won't be able to come up with any facts about the wrongness (watch that, Harvey--these bitches are bitches--please, no errors!)

Yep, Republicans--another devastating indictment of your philosophy is about to whack you on the head like Fahrenheit 451 and Fahrenheit 9/11 at the same time. Ignore that. I know you will.

But everybody else will see you with your pants down. Again.
